A-U-M: Awakening to Reality

Gaudapada was one of the world’s greatest philosophers in seventh-century India. He invokes the mystical symbol ‘AUM’ (pronounced as ‘ohm’) pointing to the three states of consciousness (waking, dreaming and deep sleep) and the nature of reality itself. In the text on which this book is based, he writes that the waker, dreamer and deep-sleeper are like the roles that an actor plays at various times. All three states are the result of ignorance and error. Who we really are is the fourth aspect – the actor himself. If you see or feel a ‘thing’, then that ‘thing’ is not ‘real.’ So the waking world is no more real than the dream. ‘You’ have never been born. Nothing has ever been created. Causality is a myth. Discover your true nature to be Existence-Consciousness, without limitations, undivided and infinite, prior to time and space. Incredible? Maybe the most important book "I" have ever read. Though unable to fully wrap my mind around all statements and obviously not being able to realize brahman as it is, I felt clarity after every reading session when I really tried to understand. Its methodical, modest and largely logical approach makes it seem trustworthy and even inspiring. While lacking true understanding I could nontheless sense that what is contained in these ancient teachings is wisdom that is not confined to the time and place in which it was conceived in and defintely deserves to be vigorously explored

"A-U-M......" is a comprehensive review of Advaita philosophy . The author discusses the mystical symbol of A-U-M that directs us to the three states of consciousness which are part and parcel to
the sole reality of Turiya consciousness. This is perhaps the best and exhaustive work on the Mandulya Upanishad and Advaita Philosophy. I would highly recommend it.
