A statistical dissertation investigating the relationship adult daughters have with their elderly parents in specific to their role as caregivers and the subsequent strain which may (or may not) occur. Central to the study is the thesis that induction to a caregiver role, or choice to assume that role, affects the stress experienced by a person caring for an elderly parent. The author studies the manner in which caregivers are selected, and their social role to the parent and the family.
