Light in the Darkness: The Teachings of Father James Keller, M.M., and the Christophers

In 1945, Fr. James Keller saw a world at war, the beginnings of the cold war, and divisions at home -- but he believed one person could make a difference. So he started a grass-roots movement called The Christophers with the motto: "IT IS BETTER TO LIGHT ONE CANDLE THAN TO CURSE THE DARKNESS." Now, Father Johnathan Morris, popular author and FOX news analyst brings you the core teachings of Fr. Keller, along with his own insights, showing us how they relate to us today.

I purchased this book because Bill O'Reilly recommended it at the end of one of his shows. I was very pleased. Though I read it from cover to cover, I would like to reread it a page a day. Each page has a story with a lesson to be learned, a Bible verse, and an affirmation.

I enjoyed reading the story behind how St. Christopher came to be a saint. (p. 69)

The four references to God mentioned in the Declaration of Indepence are descibed in one of the daily entries. (Page 82)

The prayer attributed to St. Francis of Assisi would be a worthwhile read everyday. (Page 95)

"The true bearer of Chirst does not expect his work to bear immediate fruit. He does not expect to plant a seed and get a rosebush overnight. Indeed he may labor at length and apparently in vain. But the truth is he is winning all the time, because it is the labor itself that counts." (Page 129)

This is a small sampling of the many inspirational ideas found in this book.

Teachings of Father James Keller, founder of The Chistophers. "It's better to light one candle than to curse the darkness." We are to be "Christ bearers." We are to love our neighbors by doing a kindness to those we meet daily. I realize I fall very short of this mark, but I will truly strive to do much better. This is a short easily read book, but packed on every page useful and inspiring knowledge.

This book grew on my as I read it. Easy to read. It was easy to read a page and reflect on it if that was all I had time to do. I found, more often than not, that I kept reading.
