Little Mouse with the Big Mouth

Rate this book
Meet Herbert, a tiny harvest mouse with a huge imagination... and an even bigger habit of telling fibs.

Herb has battled eagles, outwitted foxes and survived adventures that would make any mouse's whiskers quiver. There's just one problem - none of it is true.

But when one of Herb's biggest whoppers is overheard by something with very real, very sharp claws, his make-believe world suddenly becomes terrifyingly real.

With his long-suffering best friend Hazel by his side, Herb must face a danger he can't simply fib his way out of. To survive, he'll need courage, loyalty, and a little help from his friends as he learns that sometimes telling the truth takes more bravery than telling the biggest story of all.

Packed with adventure, humour and heart, Little Mouse with the Big Mouth is a charming tale of friendship, courage and learning to take responsibility for the stories we tell.

Perfect for young readers who love mischievous heroes, animal adventures, and stories with plenty of heart.

Adorably cute, enchantingly sweet with a message about honesty and friendship, J. A. Kahn’s LITTLE MOUSE WITH THE BIG MOUTH is “that” book that warms the heart and tickles the funnybone!

This has been a pleasure to read, a joy to read to little ones and an adventure they will want to hear over and over! In a world that can be so complicated and harsh, this is a place ready to whisk all young imaginations away to the land of make believe and fun.

Little Mouse with the Big Mouth by J.A. Kahn was an absolutely adorable read with a wonderful lesson woven throughout the story! Herbert Donkley, a tiny mouse with an enormous imagination, loves telling tall tales especially to his trusting best friend, Hazel. But when one of Herberts fibs lands them in real danger, he learns that words have consequences.

This story was super cute from beginning to end. The characters are charming, the adventure is engaging and the message about telling the truth and being a good friend is delivered seamlessly.

This was a heartwarming story that will have little readers entertained while also teaching an important life lesson.

Many thanks to the author, J.A Khan, for the free ebook copy of this novel !

"Little Mouse with the Big Mouth" is a story for children, about Herbert, a harvest mouse, who tells lies a lot ! and Hazel, his friend, she's a dormouse. She believes all of his lies. They're going to live some adventures in the forest

I truly enjoyed this little book :)
First, let's talk about the cover : it's beautiful, with the shiny stars, the snow...it's perfect, and i could't stop staring at it
It's easy to read, and not boring. The writing style is pleasant, and easy to understand for children
Also, it's engaging from the start, i was so curious to learn more about these two little mice. I didn't know what a dormouse or a harvest mouse are, so i looked on the internet. They're such cute little creatures :)
Herbert tells lies, it's bad. But he's so brave ! I often found myself rooting for him
The characters in this novel have many layers. For example, some characters, who are bad...maybe they're not so bad, after all. There's character development, especially for Herbert.
I liked the family of owls, they're interesting, and i think children with sympathise with them !
There are important values in this story : friendship, honesty, not losing courage or hope....
I went through several feelings while reading this book : i laughed (I pictured in my mind a tiny mouse doing karate !), i was angry (i've always liked magpies, well, not so sure anymore, lol), i was sad (for instance, Herbert's past is so sad), i was scared, and at last i felt hope !
Moreover, they are many other animals, who all talk ;) and i liked the setting (the forest)
Also, the moral of the story is very good
I will say, for the negative side, that it was a bit slow during one, or two chapters, but it picked up quickly after.

Last but not least, this short novel is cute, and clever ! I read it quickly, and when i "shut" the book, i felt i'd just lived an adventure, because of the way it's written. I'm sure a lot of children will love this book, whether they read it alone, or it's read to them by someone !

Par ailleurs, il y a d'importantes valeurs, telles que l'amitié, l'honnêteté, le fait de garder courage, et espoir...Je suis passée par diverses émotions : le rire (représentez-vous une petite souris faisant du karaté !) ;

An enthralling tale!

I saw this book posted by the author as free on Kindle Unlimited needing reviews. Even though my children are teens, I decided to read this story to see what I thought.

Honestly, I loved it and was hooked from the start. The plot was well-developed with action and a moral lesson.

I can't decide a good age range for it, but I'm leaning toward 3rd graders because of the length and complexity of the story.

As a primary school teacher, I felt the book had the perfect amount of whimsy, adventure, charisma and a great life lesson to read to my children. The class was immediately hooked in and they loved the story! There were giggles and gasps and cheers all through the book and the children loved Herb and Hazel. I thoroughly enjoyed reading to the kids and they equally loved to hear the story. I hope JA Kahn writes more stories in this style as it was a success! I look forwarding to reading more of his books.
