Lily, Simon, and Michael are still trapped in their Minecraft game, but with new friends and a better understanding of their arch enemy Mr. Anarchy, they’re getting closer to finding a way home. But before they can fight the evil griefer and escape the game, the friends need to replenish their resources—and that means trekking deeper into the Overworld.

Sky Pony Press, with our Good Books, Racehorse and Arcade imprints, is proud to publish a broad range of books for young readers—picture books for small children, chapter books, books for middle grade readers, and novels for young adults. Our list includes bestsellers for children who love to play Minecraft; stories told with LEGO bricks, and Pokemon Go; books that teach lessons about tolerance, patience, and the environment, and much more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.
I found the first book of this series in a free little library and read it last year. My significant other loves Minecraft but I wasn’t a big fan until I read that first book which really inspired me to appreciate the game a lot more. A year later, Minecraft is now the game that helps sooth my stress and anxiety and I found myself curious to seek out and read the rest of the series. I will say one thing, the characters in the book spend less time in a cave fighting cave mobs than the title of this second book suggests and which caught me by surprise. While I removed one star because I wish more time was spent exploring the caves and encountering cave mobs themselves, I still enjoyed reading this light little read and seeing some of the mobs from the game I’ve now come to know and love come to life in the story. A lot happens in the stories even when the book is only 100 pages, just like in a couple hours on the actual Minecraft game, and I can picture the characters going through barrels, and inventory and dropping items to share on missions together just like when playing with others in the game itself. While this second book wasn’t as inspiring to start playing the game as the first one, I still enjoyed it and the memories of the past year of playing the game it called to mind, and this time am looking forward to moving straight to the third book in the series since I bought the boxed set this year!
