Test prep for California's CSET Multiple Subjects test, now aligned to Common Core Common Core meets California's CSET Multiple Subjects exam in this revised CliffsNotes CSET Multiple Subjects test-prep product. Given California's adoption of the Common Core State Standards, their revising the CSET Multiple Subjects exam means CliffsNotes' revising this test-prep study guide. Individuals who want to teach at the elementary school level in California must pass the CSET Multiple Subjects exam, which is divided into three The exam, consisting of multiple-choice questions and constructed-response questions, is computer-based and can be taken anytime during the year. This 4th edition test-prep study guide includes subject-review chapters and two model practice exams.
This book was supremely helpful in studying for the tests. I took all three on separate days, and was grateful for the extra time in between to review the information in this book. While it has decent explanations of terms and what you may see, I feel some of the practice questions asked presented information that was not in the review sections. I also was not a big fan of some of the language in the Human Development part, but overall I am so glad I got this book.
Pretty solid guide, & in comparison to Mometrix guides, CliffNotes frames their content with much more cohesion & organization. The book's thick, with hefty pages, but is altogether very light in weight, and the pages are durable for annotation (color pencils, ballpoints, highlighters, some markers & pens will be fine). The two practice tests are facsimiles of what to expect & prep for. If you're wondering whether you even need this at all for the exam, well, take one of those diagnostics online (i.e. a sample test). You might just need to brush up on one area or another.
For Subtest I & III: You probably won't need this if you intend to diligently go through an online course (or playlists) because the entire CSET-MS exam is fairly general and doesn't go very deep (you're prepping to teach 5-10 year-olds). A certain percentage of the content will already be easy for you. I'd recommend ordering this guide to give yourself a sense of the kinds of terms, buzzwords, names, etc. that the examiners are basing their questions upon, and are centering their standards for answers around. For History, the basics would be Rome & Greece (European stuff), the Renaissance, etc., but the specific stuff would be about California, or constitutional stuff (like how deep do they expect you to go on articles, amendments, etc.); for Development & Human Growth stuff, well, either you've learned about this & are in a profession or field related to it, or you're one who needs to grab this guide, in order to be able to refer to Piaget, Erickson, & Vygotsky; and there are specialty fields that definitely get covered on the exam, of dance, music, theater, & visual art.
For Subtest II: If you've taken calc or pre-algebra courses then the math'll be a breeze, no need for this book. But if you struggle w/fractions, or can't make sense of the different types of rocks, clouds, or kingdoms, etc., then grab this, hold on, & supplement it w/online vids & courses.
In a nutshell, this is handy for having all the prep materials neatly bound & bundled. Good luck.
