The author of Parables and Miracles provides nine retellings featuring animals of the Bible, such as ravens, doves, and lions, and the important roles they have played in relation to Biblical figures.
Mary Hoffman is a bestselling British author and reviewer, born in 1945. She is a true enthusiast of Italy and spends a lot of her time there, which shows in her Stravaganza novels: a series currently in publication. In total, she has written over 80 books, including the aforementioned Stravaganza series and the bestselling picture book, Amazing Grace. Mary is also the editor of a review magazine Armadillo for kids.
Most children love animals ... if their early experiences are favorable. Mary Hoffman's sweet book about the animals in the Bible is a good first book meant to catch the interest of a young child who already loves tales about his four-legged friends. Children are treated to selected stories from Genesis, Exodus, Kings, Daniel and Jonah, told on a pre-school level, although I think older children would still enjoy them. However, depending on how much a child already knows about Scripture, he/she might find these stories simplified and incomplete. Still Jackie Morris's animals are worth looking at whether or not you read the book. I loved those! 3 stars for the text and an extra one for the artwork.
A handsome picture book collection of Old Testament Bible stories featuring animals. The text is edited for length and straightforward storytelling for children. With the list of Bible verses in the back matter, this will be an accessible introduction to some of the popular Old Testament stories.
