Duane Boehm grew up on a farm outside of Petersburg, Illinois. All the time spent driving a tractor gave him plenty of opportunity to let his imagination run wild and not tear up too much equipment. The two passions he developed early in life were the love of playing guitar and reading books.
He eventually moved to a mini-farm outside of Murfreesboro, Tennessee with his wife and replaced planting corn with trees and raising dogs. For a number of years he worked as an IT consultant and continued with being a part-time musician and songwriter. He dabbled in writing short stories with the idea in the back of his mind that someday he would write a novel. One Christmas after watching "A Christmas Carol", he was inspired to begin his journey as a novelist.
The Gideon western series is one the best western that I have read.
This book has more humor, and Finnie and the Doc are hilariously funny. Ethan and Gideon has had there share of problems, and now all is well. I just love the happy reunion.
Thank You, D B, for continuing this western. We love it.
I've enjoyed the first two, and this is certainly well worth the time to read (and re-read). After you have all three books, re-read them in sequence and appreciate the craftsmanship that went into the series. More, please, Duane.
I just completed the third in a series by Duane Boehm. They are all very enjoyable reading.. I highly recommend all of them. Also discount the review critical of preacher Ethan. That was nonsense.
I read all three of the books in 2 days, easy to read & held my attention. A nice break from the other western authors I've been reading! Hope another book comes out soon!
Gideon takes in strays, only these are the two legged kind. Friends that are down on there luck and need to be put on the straight and narrow. Gideon's daughter comes to visit and there is hope for a reconciliation, but will it last? Add to that murders to investigate and you get a very interesting read.
A Western of a New Sheriff/Female Slavery./Crooks /Women with Grit
DB has written the 3rd novel of the Gideon Johann appointed Sheriff at a small town named Last Chance. He has 2 friends that held him run the Sheriff's Office. He discovers that the prostitutres .
I love the characters, each with a unique and endearing personality. It is refreshing to read s book where the women and men are witty, strong yet sensitive.
The author has again captured my attention with this story about life in a western town, a sheriff and his family. The story included pieces about hunting and capturing outlaws .... the thoughts and trials of the sheriff and his friends. Recommend this read.
Wonderful! More plot than the Walking Dead. It's like listening to the old radio broadcasts of Gunsmoke, Have Gun-Will Travel, and Luke Slaughter. I'm a fan!
Loved this too! Loved all the books in this series, but this one had some comedy too! Loved the water trough dunking! Chance's middle name was awesome!
If you've seen the old John Wayne movie McClintock, you've pretty much heard the story of this book. Ornery women, spoiled daughters, getting tossed into horse troughs. There's more to it than that, of course, and all I all its a good read, but those parts are just too nearly like that movie. Like the first two books, it needs better editing. The mistakes are distracting.
An excellent Western with several plot lines to follow. The characters developed in books 1 & 2 remain consistent but continue to develop. Finnegan is a fine addition to Gideon, Mary, Abby, JoAnn, Doc, Ethan and Zack. The new bad guys are also very nicely developed. If you like a good Western, I recommend all three!
I rated this a five, the only fault I could find with it was sentence structure. I read for the joy of reading for being entertained. A good proof reader would help this book but I don't think that would improve the story. The structure yes but not the st Roy. I would recommend its reading to anyone old enough to know about the 'birds and the bees'.
I love the way this story was written. It has all the emotions and feelings you can write onto story. There is love, anger, hate there is tenderness. There is comedy. Probably one of the best western I have read.
The old west comes to life in the continuing saga of Gideon Johann, his growing family and chosen profession. Refreshing, not just another typical western novel.
I got sucked in and had to continue the series to see how things played out. This book was entertaining and had far fewer errors than the previous ones. There's humor and a lot of action. Scenarios are a bit more realistic but author should check his facts about the area in which he's writing.
Excellent book and series. Westerns are my favorite genre and I'm glad to have found such a fantastic series. I enjoyed the characters, the plot and the way the author put things together.
