A book greatly needed in our era of false ecumenism! Tells the authentic story of St. Francis' trip to the Sultan in Egypt and efforts to convert him to the One True Faith. Also includes a brief biography of St. Francis; including his stigmata; the Franciscans; St. Clare; and St. Francis' view of the Crusades. 176 Pp. PB.
This is a marvellous book that every Catholic needs to read. Author Frank Rega, a Third Order Franciscan, sets the record straight on what sort of person St. Francis of Assisi actually was. A far cry from the bird-loving, peace-promoting hippie that progressivist Catholics envision, St. Francis was a medieval man, who had such a burning love for Our Lord that he became the first known saint to receive the wounds of Christ on his body. Mr. Rega explains how St. Francis had so much zeal for souls that after he founded the Franciscan Order he joined the Fifth Crusade in an attempt convert the sultan of Egypt. St. Francis was no believer in dialogue and praised the men who died in the noble cause of the crusade. This book has given me a whole new appreciation for the Poor Man of Assisi.
“St. Francis of Assisi and the Conversion of the Muslims” brought the history of later Crusades to life! When we leave religion out of history it loses its purpose and becomes uninteresting to read. But, when the details are included, wow! Now you have an historical event to read!
This book should be read by all Christians, and students who study the crusades. St Francis of Assisi was an amazing person.
