The Healing Journey

Rate this book
The Healing Journey is a comprehensive discussion of what people with cancer or other serious illnesses can do to help themselves. Written by a leading specialist in this area, this valuable book surveys the field of self-help, explaining the potential of each approach. In a frank and supportive manner, Dr. Cunningham, himself a cancer survivor, surveys the entire range of treatments that have been advocated for cancer, from conventional medical methods, dietary remedies, and psychological approaches such as mental imaging, to spiritual and existential avenues of therapy. The main body of the book is about "healing from within," a critical discussion of self-help methods that draws on scientific studies, the clinical experience of many therapists and accounts from patients who have improved dramatically. By treading the middle ground between the conservatism of modern western medicine and the radicalism of New Age thinking, Dr. Cunningham has created a book that will aid cancer patients and their families in making rational decisions about responsible and effective self-help.
