Charles Parkinson is a son of the late Professor C Northcote Parkinson, the naval historian and author of 'Parkinson's Law'. He was born in Singapore in 1954, but the family move to Alderney in the Channel Islands for a few months in 1959, before settling in Guernsey the following year. During their time in Alderney, Charles met T H White, the author of the Arthurian classics "The Sword in the Stone' and 'The Once and Future King'. White wanted to adopt the young Charles, on the grounds that "parents alwaysdo a lousy job of raising children", but the offer was politely refused. Charles was educated in England, and read Law at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. After university, he qualified as a Chartered Accountant and a Barrister. A successful career in the financial services industry followed, but in 2004 he retired from practice and was elected to Guernsey's parliament. In 2008, he became the island's Minister of Treasury & Resources, a post which he held until he stood down at the 2012 general election. At the end of that year, he published 'Lisia; Vortigern's Island', and in 2013 he has published 'The Duke and the Decoy'.
