Did not finish
April 26, 2016I don't DNF books a lot. I do usually try to finish a book but I really couldn't go on anymore. I figured I could better focus on other books at the moment.
I also should say I didn't think this book was totally horrible or something. I just really couldn't get into it. I do like sci-fi but this story was pretty odd. I'm not saying this is a really bad thing but this wasn't the story for me.
I liked Rise and Cooper well enough but I didn't feel a connection with them as the main characters. And like the synopsis says, this book is pretty edgy and it is. I usually like edgy in books but right now I couldn't like it.

This is just a glimpse into the world Delaunay has created for us- gloriously rich, vibrant and mysterious- the perfect setting for this action packed Sci-fi fantasy. Her writing is colorful, seductive and ethereal, but this story isn't all rainbows and pixie dust. An epic battle between good and evil is poised to begin, and everything depends on Rise, a young siren unaware of her destiny, and the strapping Cooper Pierce, an elite soldier for Earth's Off World Black-Ops program.
Delauney’s socio-political commentary is hard to miss. The ‘Echelon’ as she calls them, are the powers that be who enslave entire populations by discarding truths, manipulating history, and distracting the masses with temporary frivolities. With every generation, people are pushed further and further from the knowledge of their origins, and the vast power they are capable of. Eventually, this information is forgotten entirely. Once the cycle of control is in place, people stop noticing the chains. Choice becomes the greatest illusion. Sound familiar?
If you've been searching for an edgy, provocative sci-fi series to completely submerse yourself in, I think you'll enjoy this one.
