Rhea Gamble writes quietly dark fantasy about power, control, and the cost of feeling too much. Low on spoons, but high on plot twists, she lives in Dorset, England. Where she can usually be found reading obsessively, painting her favourite books onto her forever bookshelf mural, and occasionally making a spectacle of herself online.
In dedication to whimsy (and a persuasive socials poll), Rhea wears a sunflower headdress in her author photo. She would like to remind you, that because it was taken by a professional photographer, it therefore displays her extreme professionalism.

ALC REVIEW: I did struggle at times to get into the narration for this book. There were long stretches where I felt engaged with the story and it was fun to listen to, but there were also many places where the tempo of the responses felt off. One character in particular, Simon, I didn’t like how his voice was done at all. The tone with how he responded and the cadence to his words made it so I about couldn’t stand him. I don’t know if I was just relating to the main character with this and it was all intentional but it got to the point where I would have been ok with him getting killed (Sorry Simon). The other parts to this were some of the conversations between characters and the general interactions that Rayanne had. I felt that the natural rhythm to their conversations weren’t quite where they should have been. Volume was too low or too high and the tone used for each character didn’t quite feel right. I don’t know if this was done to reflect her overstimulation but it made it tough for me to stay engaged with what was
being said. Overall narration was good, but I wouldprefer less jarring transitions between characters and between some of the scenes as well.

I was able to listen to this audiobook as an arc through bookfunnel. Thank you for this opportunity and this is my honest review.

3.5 stars, I found this to be hard to get into, but about 1/3rd of the way in I was hooked. From the very beginning I loved our FMC, she felt like wonderful neurodivergent rep. She didn't sugar coat herself, and she had every right to be as nervous around people as she is.
I did find the beginning hard to get into mostly because there would be terms that were unique to this world that were not explained until they had been used a few times.
My biggest issue was honestly probably mostly a me thing. I hated the voice the narrator did for Simon, so much. To the point I ended up hating Simon and I don't think I normally would have.
Overall I enjoyed the book and would 100% read any future parts of the series.

3.5!

really unique which i loved, and did enjoy the humour and banter between the main group of characters! also loved the neurodivergent rep! how within their sort of hidden world there different layers to the powers/different types of key abilities which was fun! the bluntness was honestly mwah, because same, was definitely a new concept which and i do love how she didn’t just concede to things and held her own thoughts/opinions throughout without giving in or giving up.
