The Human Who Looked at Art

Rate this book
Nobody knows war like the humans do. They’re built for it, with dense, muscular bodies and sharp senses. Born from social predators. Taught to fight for any and every cause. So tough, when any sensible being asks, “Hey. You realize Earth is a Class 13 Death World, right? You should be dead.”

They just shrug and say, “Home sweet Murdering Death Trap.”

And even if the humans won’t let anyone within a million light-years of their home planet, it stands to reason it’s barely a pile of rubble after centuries of war. Uncultured, brutal, and merciless. Humans are the perfect soldier and they don’t know any other way of life.

At least that’s what they tell everyone.

Fun, but Shorter than Expected

This is a really cool take on Earth’s entry into the greater universe, and I’m excited to see where it will go! Humanity starting its big entry with a full scale deception about the nature of our species is super interesting (and all the little ways we inevitably slip up bring great narrative tension and no few laughs).

I did expect it to be longer, though - one star off for that. Short is understandable for the price I bought it, but only two chapters? Or maybe it’s actually two connected short stories, so I guess I’ll give that star back, but the sudden stop felt really abrupt. Hope there’s a compendium in our future!

Like it, wished it were longer

I liked the stories, and characters. Just wish it were longer.

The reasoning behind hiding humanities capabilities and the reasons for species specialization would have been nice also.

Short read

Two small short stories reminiscent of HFY. Don't expect a big complicated plot line. Hopefully more. Best read with a coffee

This is so good

I really enjoyed this short. For such a short novella the world building and depth of characters is great. My only complaint is I can’t find the next in the series!
