The Memory of You

Rate this book
Suzy thought she'd already had her happily ever after.

Just weeks before her wedding, her fiancé, Brad, was killed in a tragic accident. Two years later, she's living in the little Lake District cottage they bought together, existing but not living.

When environmental consultant Richard arrives to rent her spare room for three months, the last thing she wants is romance.

An unexpected friendship develops into something undeniable. To fall in love is one thing. Finding the courage to let go of the life she'd planned with Brad is another.
Suzy is forced to ask herself whether moving forward means leaving Brad behind or whether love has room enough for both the past and the present.

The memory of You is an emotional romance that teaches us the people we love never truly leave us, they become part of the story that carries us forward and that life doesn't have to end after heartbreak, maybe it's about writing a different chapter.

I write romance and chick lit for readers who enjoy easy-to-read love stories, a bit of humour, and characters you’d enjoy a coffee or wine with.

The Prediction of You, my first novel, launched the Versions of You series, followed by The Memory of You coming out in September 2026. A third and final book will be added to the series in 2027. I’ve been writing for over ten years, but only now stopped treating it like a secret hobby and started taking it seriously. Procrastination and self-doubt are long-time pastimes of mine.

I’m originally from the UK but now live in Adelaide, Australia, where I juggle writing with running my business and family life. Our household includes my husband, two kids, and two dogs who are convinced they’re the main characters.

When I’m not writing, I’m usually reading, training dogs, or baking something sweet (I’m also a cake maker, which is both a hobby and a delicious problem).

I love stories that make people smile, escape for a while, and believe in a little bit of romance along the way.

This was a new author for me and I enjoyed the story; it felt fresh and heartfelt. I think that if you have experience profound loss, then this book will hit you differently, so just beware.

This book boils to a grieving process that has stunned living for Suzy. She was the woman ready to start forever with who her soulmate, but when a tragedy takes him away, she is left in limbo as her dreams/plans/love all disappear with him. Her grieving is sad and hard to understand at times as she feels the guilt of life through her decision making.

Enter Richard, he comes looking for a place to live and rents the extra room in the house she was meant to builld her forever, and in a way creates ripples in her equilibrium. He understands her and is caring with her, they relationship builds in a slow burn that showcases the stages of her grieving and her slow healing process.

Sad, funny, a bit spicy, but so heartfelt overall!

Overall, the book was really good. Especially for people who have lost their partner as a woman might relate with her. I hope they know that they can move on even from the love of their life just like Suzy did.

There were few problems which stopped it from being a 5 star book that I thought to mention below.

No.1
It felt like the reason she couldn't move on and love someone else was because she thought Brad was her soulmate. (This was mentioned in the prologue). So, does it mean Brad wasn't actually her soulmate? This topic gets glossed over. I wish this was discussed more.

No. 2
If a man's fiance had died then he wouldn't ask for her permission to love someone else. They generally dont, even when they are fictional. They, at most, would respect her by remembering her love. But Suzy couldn't love someone else or move on from Brad without gettig his permission. Society wouldn't like it if she just moved on from her "fiance." Had it been emphasised that she simply doesn't know how to be without him then her not being able to move on would have made sense.
I didn't get much of how she actually missed him that she wished he was there with her for that moment. Even though i spent the whole novel in her perspective, i dont remember her saying 'how can I drink tea alone? I used to drink tea with him'. It was all just her guilt of forgetting him perhaps. ( Forgetting the person who is dead feels the worst kind of betrayal to them.) But in showing her fear of forgetting him, author forgot to show us her missing him.

💞 Why incorporate him into her new relationship if she didn't miss him? 💞
I think it's ok to forget them if you don't miss them anymore as much because you are alive and you have to keep living. They won't even know and even if they did, they wouldn't want it this way.

This was my first book in this series. I can't say much since I didn't read the first book but she couldn't have written that from either of their perspective. So, basically we were robed of their first insta connection moment and was simply referred to that moment in this book. That was so evil. I want all their moments especially the one when they first meet!

But, nevertheless, the story itself was good. Simple. A little complicated. Easy to read. And had extra spicy moments.

Given my favourite movie is "The Holiday" - I totally loved this book as it had very similar vibes. A story of dealing with grief, of rebuilding after loss, of friendship, of romance & a little spice. It was an easy read and an enjoyable ride. An adventure set across two countries - the cozy Lake District in England and sunny, laid back Sydney, Australia. I was sad when the booked finished as I enjoyed spending time with the characters & will definitely be delving into other books written by this author.

I received an advanced copy of this book and am leaving my review because I loved this book so much.
Page one and I was like ‘ do not put it down ‘ I couldn’t wait to read more every night. The story is perfect, with some tears, some laughs , some Aussie and UK twists and just the perfect amount of spice.
I was hooked and still think about the characters!
Grab a cuppa tea and enjoy this amazing read.

Absolutely LOVED this book.. One of those books that it’s hard to pick your next read because you’re sad this book is finished. I loved the authentic journey of the main character as she worked her way through grief and complexity of life after a loss. It had all the major things I look for in a book - friendships, romance and a little bit of spice. Can’t wait to read the next one by this author.
