Life in the corporate world isn’t always about the position you hold, but about the moves you make!
♟️ INSIGHT: The book follows Arvind, a professional whose career takes him through different stages of the corporate world, from public institutions to private organisations and leadership roles. His journey shows the reality behind a professional career- dealing with people, handling pressure, making difficult decisions, and navigating different personalities and expectations. As Arvind grows, he learns that success isn’t just about skills or getting a bigger position. It’s also about handling power, relationships, conflicts, compromises, and difficult choices while staying true to your values.
♟️ REVIEW: The Corporate Chess is a thoughtful take on the realities of corporate life and everything that happens behind the scenes. I liked how the book uses chess as a metaphor for the corporate world- every decision feels like a move, and every move can have its own consequences. What I enjoyed most was the way it explores ambition, leadership, workplace relationships, power, and difficult choices. The story also makes you think about how people navigate professional situations while trying to balance success with their values. I found the concept interesting and the corporate setting quite relatable, especially for anyone who has experienced or is curious about professional life. However, a few parts felt a little slow to me, and I sometimes wanted more depth in the emotional side of the characters. Overall, The Corporate Chess is a thought-provoking fictional read about ambition, choices, relationships, and the different moves we make in our professional lives.
♟️ STRENGTHS:
* Practical insights into corporate life.
* Thought-provoking lessons on leadership and integrity.
♟️ WEAKNESS:
- Some parts of the story felt a little slow, and I felt the corporate aspects sometimes took more focus than the emotional side of the characters. A few moments could have been explored in more depth.
♟️ GENRE: Corporate Fiction/ Business Fiction
♟️ TARGET READERS: 18+
♟️ RATING: 3.8/5

The Corporate Chess by Ramesh Khaitan dives right into the unwritten rules of professional life. The story centers on Arvind, a professional who has spent years navigating boardrooms, public sectors, and corporate executive suites. The narrative walks through the tension between personal integrity and professional compromise, showing how power and influence truly work in real office setups.
Through a insider's view of corporate political reality, the book exposes the quiet compromises and hidden personal costs required to get ahead. Instead of giving you a fake shortcut or a rigid rulebook, it gives you a lens to see the whole board, letting you navigate the politics with your eyes wide open.
If you work in an office and ever find yourself wondering why corporate decisions don't always seem logical on paper, this book is for you. It’s particularly useful for young professionals who want to understand corporate culture early on, as well as mid level managers trying to balance ethics with results.

In The Corporate Chess, author Ramesh Khaitan breaks down the unspoken side of workplace culture. We see this entire ecosystem through Arvind, whose career spans everything from government entities to private executive boardrooms.I really appreciated how grounded and easy the writing is.
The book openly explores office politics without asking you to become ruthless. It beautifully balances merit, influence, power, and ethics, while honestly showing the trade offs that come with professional growth. It gives you the tools to analyze situations clearly, make conscious decisions, and stay grounded no matter what office environment you find yourself in.
This is a great read for entry level employees, experienced managers, and long-time leaders alike. Anyone looking to gain a clear eyed understanding of how decisions are made behind corporate doors will get genuine value out of Arvind's story.

Most business books sell quick fixes, but The Corporate Chess by Ramesh Khaitan takes a completely different path. It looks at the real reality behind office life. Every company has two sides: the official documents, policies, and public announcements everyone sees and the hidden layer of behind the scenes conversations, alliances, and tough compromises.
Following the protagonist, Arvind, through his career in public institutions, private businesses, and boardrooms, the book pulls back the curtain on how work environments actually function. Reading about Arvind's journey felt like having a realistic conversation with a senior mentor who refuses to give generic corporate line answers.
It gave me a much clearer mental model for reading the room and handling complex team dynamics without losing my own sanity or values. I think this is a fantastic read for anyone who feels a bit confused by workplace politics or is just starting their professional journey.

The Corporate Chess offers a realistic and thoughtful look into the hidden side of professional life. I liked how it explores workplace politics, power dynamics, unwritten rules, and the choices that shape a career. Arvind’s journey makes the lessons feel practical rather than overly motivational. A good read for anyone curious about what really happens behind the polished image of the corporate world.
