Pamela Odijk is an Australian author of children's history books. She was a former librarian, mainly working in several university libraries, State Library of Queensland, National Library of Australia, and TAFE libraries for over 30 years.
She changed careers and became a full-time author of 27 history books published by Macmillan, a gardening book, and a book on writing published by Information Australia, plus 300 feature articles for various newspapers and popular magazines.
She and her husband Herman Odijk live in Australia, when they are not traveling the world.

I had to read this for school, and it was painfully long. Please forgive me ancient Phoenicians but I don't care what your favorite food was and how long your ships were.

It's definitely a kiddie book (was researching for a film script, and the library's adult section had zilch).
Wikipedia will get you farther.
