A collection of seasonal photos from Minnesota's past with excerpts from letters and journals from each season. The book is broken up into the four seasons of the year and the author wrote captions giving available information about each photo. The photos are really interesting and fun to look at and I enjoyed reading the letter and journal excerpts. At times, I found the author's captions on the photos to speculate too much. Overall, though, a fun look into Minnesota's past.

Admittedly biased, I love Peg Meier's books. We went to high school together, worked on the school paper together and graduated together. We lost track of each other. However I have followed and admired her career with the Minneapolis Star Tribune and bought all of her 'picture' books. Exhaustive research elicited wonderful stories of Minnesota people leading interesting, unique, average, extraordinary lives long before we lived. Different times, different clothes, different jobs, houses, modes of transportation---everything unrecognizable to us--except that they've been given personality, heart, humanity by Peg in her wonderful, narrated compilation of photographs. History come alive.
