There's more going on in the The Street than its inhabitants realise... In the course fo this delightful, quirky and perceptive novel an elderly soldier with incipient Alzheimer's saves the life of e remarkable child, a resting actor finds real purpose, a woman starved of love discovers it in an unexpected place and a beloved cat achieves immortality.
I picked this up from the library as it was marked as a 2015 top pick so I thought I'd see what it was like. The basic premise is a story about a street in London where life is more like a village in that everyone knows everyone else. Most of this is driven by and around one particular character, Anne.
All the individual stories from other inhabitants of the street are carefully built up and interconnected, this is done very well. Now here comes my but, the story starts to converge as the build up heads to one traumatic event. This happens in the last few pages and is all of sudden over and that's your lot!
If you want to read lots of short stories and how to build character relationships, then you'll enjoy this but if you want a traditional plotline and a bit more meat to your read then you should get something else.
