Belief is a powerful thing; it’s not easily separated from the believer. This is what concerns me—that a third of us do not seem to have a belief, unlike the tenth dentist in a popular toothpaste commercial. Remember those commercials that state, “Nine out of ten dentists recommend …?” That is a brave dentist! I mean nine of his colleagues chose Brand XYZ, and he stuck to his conviction and said no. I want to know more of the other nine. Did they all agree? If so, my admiration for number ten grows. I bet at least four could not decide.
The power is in the choice. In my experience, the choice depends upon three types of people—the Dos, the Don’ts, and the Dazed. These three kinds of people or personalities decide the decisions. The Dos solve problems on their own. There is no magic to their problemsolving skills other than the fact of focusing on the solution rather than the problem. The opposing person is the Don’ts. These people are so obsessed with the problem to the point that they are blinded to any possible solution. Last are the Dazed; they are neither Dos nor Don’ts, but they are rather confused.
I am a Christian and a therapist; therefore, I am a Christian therapist, and my belief in God influences my thoughts. Belief is a strong thing, if it is more than a casual acquaintance.
Bryan Lindberg is a reluctant therapist. Why? He never planned to be a therapist. His plan was to retire from the military but a combat injury during the Gulf War changed that plan. At the age of 29 (after 11 years of service) he was retired and unemployed. That is how the journey to be a Reluctant Therapist began.
Today he has two separate graduate degrees.; Masters of Art in Theology from Providence College and a Masters of Science in Human Development from the University of Rhode Island and is a License Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT).
He started private practice after he and his wife of 21 years moved to the Blue Ridge of Southwest Virginia with there 3 children.
Bryan specializes in Systemic Theory; all aspects of living are connected. This is to say an issue is never isolated, it effects many different components and the solution is found by examining the entire system.
Bryan combines faith, science and humor to bring the important question to the surface. The ones that demand answers.
