The Moments That Make Us

Rate this book
The world we live in is fast paced, cutthroat, and incredibly confusing. We are often forced to make choices we truly aren’t sure about, or weren’t ready to make. We spend our time saying “What if?” or “I shouldn’t have.” We often look out instead of in as we try to find the root of what makes us tick, placing blame on everyone and everything other than ourselves along the way.

Pete Evick, professional musician, award-winning producer, songwriter, and father, shares his personal stories about the unique moments in his life, in hopes that they will convince you, the readers, to dig a little deeper into your own moments and evoke the mental archaeologist lying dormant in all of us.

THE MOMENTS THAT MAKE US is a wonderful collection of moments from the life of Pete Evick. Nothing held back. A successful rock star taking the stage with one of America's rock legends, Bret Michaels, shares the most intimate life-changing moments in his life in hopes to get us to look at our own lives. He sure touched my heart and soul. A wonderful reminder that no matter what someone's life looks like out on the outside, we have no idea the baggage or moments that came together to make them the unique individual they are today.

A really good read. Quick, entertaining, heart-tugging, and hopeful.
I highly recommend this book.
Set for release on June 16th. I'm honored to have an early copy.

Loved it!! What an awesome read!! Pete Evick reflects on times of his life and how they made an impact on him. He shares very personal stories and how he dealt with these issues. This book makes you reach into your own mind and makes you rethink about some of the things that you may do and why you do them based on your own personal experiences or emotions.

This book allowed for me to learn about some of Pete's life experiences but wow it sure made me rethink some of mine. This books gave me a chance to dig deeper into my own emotions and memories. It gave me a chance to rethink some of the things that I do or believe in today. Was it all because of some impact (good or bad) that happened to me when I was younger and that is why I feel or do the things I do as an adult now. If you are looking for a book that will keep you thinking and allow for you to dig deeper into yourself then this is the book for you!! This was a very deep read for me and I enjoyed every minute of it. Would I read it again? You bet I will ! Second time around may just bring up a new emotion/memory and I may be able to reflect upon something different. Great book wish there were more than 5 stars to give! Hats off to to you Pete you ROCK!!!

There are very few books in the world that you read… and remember for a lifetime. “The Moments That Make Us” will forever be one of those books for me. Pete Evick’s voice, stories and thoughts literally jump off the page and pull you in as if you are part of them. He writes as if he is sitting in the room, sharing his emotions and life experience, with his heart right there on his sleeve. There is a certain “out of the box” way of thinking that Pete uses to transform what most of us would consider to be normal adolescent familiarities… into the actual moments that have made him the person who he is today. His book will spark inspiration in all of those who read it to take a small step back and remember those small moments that each of us have had.

Wonderful surprise!!!

I really didn't know much about Pete when I bought this book, only that he was an awesome guitar player for a band I love. I knew it wasn't a story about rock n roll, I didn't know that I would be so touched. Beautifully written, touching our hearts with the most important things to learn and pass on to others. I am going to purchase some paperbacks and give them to my family and friends. I went to a BMB show a few nights ago, with my one goal to get a chance to meet Pete, (as I had already met all the other guys in the band). I got that chance, and am happy to tell you he is a very sweet man. BUY THIS BOOK AND ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO DO THE SAME!!!

I wasn't sure what the book was going to be about when I first started reading it
However once I started reading the book I was able to reflect upon the various situations Pete went thru to get where he is today and use those to examine my life, the thing I have and haven't done including things that I have installed upon my children. It was a good soul searching book. It also gave me more insight into who the real Pete Evick is and how he got to where he us today. Thanks Pete for sharing your movements with us.

I loved how down-to-earth this book was. I'm not usually a fan of autobiography-type books, but reading this one was more like listening to a close friend telling stories. It was a nice relaxing read with plenty of interesting concepts. Pete Evick uses song lyrics throughout to embellish his stories and to elaborate.

One thing that I found funny was that Pete and I actually share a common experience that I before thought I was alone in experiencing. I, too, in 1st grade (he was in second, but still...) had a teacher that would only call on you if your hand was raised. However, like Pete, 20 minutes later when I still wasn't called on, I peed myself. What was crazy was how Pete's teacher let that happen twice in the same year. Something wrong with that lady...

Anyway, good book, a quick read that I thoroughly enjoyed.

I received a free copy of this book thanks to the First Reads giveaway program. Thanks!

Inspiring and thought provoking

I didn't know the author as a musician or his band. It doesn't impact the message from the book. It's like reading many short stories. Humanity can truly do much better when we accept our differences. Some of his stories about his mother makes her seem like an awful person, but his perception of her doesn't appear to be bad. His messages are positive. What I liked the most is that it makes me want to figure myself out.

It was a pretty good book. I agreed with a majority of what he said. I had some disagreement on religious views, but other than that he is a great author. I am grateful that he shared his personal journey of raising a family while being a musician with us.

I would love to see him do more on other topics in the future.

This book was a very pleasant surprise - not at all what I would expect from a metal guitarist. Very personal, very insightful, and possibly some life lessons I can take away from it. I really enjoyed this.

I'm not usually one for biographies, but I really appreciated this book. Pete Evick has lived the fast and furious life of a rockstar, and yet in this book he's so relatable, honest, and just refreshingly HUMAN that you can't help but develop a relationship with him. A good read.

Just OK. An autobiography with each chapter a topic with stories related to the topic and the author's opinion. He talks a lot about trying to do his best and be kind. He regrets being divorced and missing his two sons growing up for the most part. He does take responsibility.
