I liked this story and have actually heard non-fiction stories a bit like this. The author does a good job with this short story and with the characters, which include Katie, a woman who gets kidnapped and Raph and Sonny, her kidnappers. I always like this author's stories as they deal with people and their emotions. You never know how you will react in a dangerous situation and the author has added a bit of a twist to this story of crime and passionate people.
this was a good quick read.. interesting and intriguing.. kept me on the edge of my seat.. i really enjoyed it. it had some creepy spots. it had emotions i didnt see coming and it made me curious. i really liked it and cant wait to read more by this author.
Once again I thank the author for messaging me with regards to reading her books. As I have found an author that I really enjoy reading.
Again with this book. It is a great short read. So if you don’t have a lot of time as you want to complete your reading goals with a great read. Then look. I further than Marcus’s books.
You will get great characterisation, a book that is gripping and that will make you think. Marcia manages to put you right in the middle of the action, and even thou this is a short story. It has a lot of content in it and it will have you speed reading through it to get to the ending. But then be gutted that you have completed it so fast. Which got me is a sign of a great author.
Take a chance on a new author and I promise you will not be sorry.
“Good value for money - not only did we score the loot, we got the girl.”
Author Marcia Carrington has published many books about the human condition, exploring what makes people tick, but in an upbeat and optimistic tone. Marcia’s books are novellas cum short stories and that is one reason they are such a pleasure to read: she has an idea, develops it rapidly, lets us know the characters it affects, and ties it all up with a bow a the end.
It is rather amazing that Marcia can create a story with twists and turns and a circumstance that is thankfully far from normal and tell her story in 35 pages! AS the plot summary state, ‘: Katie walks home from work to her apartment every day, and visits a small supermarket on the way home. On two occasions she encounters a duo of petty criminals - Raph and Sonny - outside the supermarket who eye her, and kidnap her one late afternoon. Will the valiant Katie's life come to an untimely end of the hands of her kidnappers, or will this be a meeting of the minds in a most unexpected way for her, and them?’
But with Marcia’s philosophy of an general optimistic tone she writes the conversation between Katie and the kidnappers – ‘’Maybe I’m crazy, could be a little loony, but…what pushed you to get into all this?” Katie asked. “Huh?” “Why are you doing what you’re doing?” Katie asked. Raph ambled over to the table, picked up a glass jar, and smashed it on the ground, which jolted Katie. “You want to know why?” Raph screeched, as Katie nodded. “I’m doing it because all the doors slammed shut for me…I was going to be a university lecturer, but they set me up, saying that I cheated on some work, plagiarizing other people…they wanted me out of there, and they got their way. But no one will get their way with me, again, ever,” Raph said, eyes filled with hatred. Katie was flabbergasted - the man who had kidnapped her was anything but uneducated, and doing something way below him. “I’m sorry,” Katie said, looking at the floor. “The world can be a nasty place sometimes.” “You can say that again. Anyway, why am I telling you all this? Are you going to use it against me or something?” Raph said, eyeing her with vigilance. Katie smiled slightly at Raph, and shook her head. “I would never do that to you - you don’t deserve it.” “What?” Raph said, incredulously. “You deserve better than what you’ve received in life - you’ve gotten a raw deal,” Katie said.‘
Few writers can match Marcia’s quick short story enhanced with philosophy as she manages in each of her stories. Beautifully written and related, Marcia has a special gift for enhancing our view of the world
I was given this book for free in return for an honest review, this book is about a woman, Katie, caught in a robbery, she is taken by the robber, while in the custody of her kidnappers she sees the potential for a better future with one of them and sets out to help him. Now the idea of the story is good one and as it is a short story it happens fast but I liked it. The men in the story were a bit babyish at times and I struggled to see that in a pair of robbers but apart from that the writing was good and like I said before the story is an interesting idea.
This is a well written short novella with strong characters and an intriguing story life. The author does a great job moving the story quickly and smoothly ,packing it with drama, danger and a bit of a twist. I enjoyed reading.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Marcia Carrington did an amazing job with this short story. Katie is kidnapped outside a small grocery store by Raph and Sonny. In the end it was Katie who ends up saving Raph. Great plot and written amazingly.
I have never been so rude in my reviews before but this was utter rubbish, there is no rhyme nor reason for this book, I only picked it because of the blurb and the raving reviews, I have no idea what book these reviewers read but it can't have been this one, My daughter can write better stories, I hate been so negative I made it to 20 % wanted to give in then, picked it back up and got to 50% I don't like not reading a book I have acquired but I got to 70% and just couldn't do it, It was awful.
