What is Conditional Formatting and Why is It Useful for You?
Conditional formatting in Excel allows you to format a range of cells based on a criteria/rule that you specify. A very simple rule could be a value greater than 50, needs to be highlighted as green. By working with conditional formatting you do not have to format the cells manually and you can let Excel do all the work for you. If there is a change in the data in any of the cells, the formatting for those cells will change, if they meet different criteria according to your rule.
In most cases I use conditional formatting to visualize the data, meaning that I can start analyzing my data set even before I start looking at the values within the cells. Another great way of using conditional formatting is in dashboards with difference performance metrics, as it will summarize if you for example meet the target or are below it. By using conditional formatting you can improve your productivity, when you are working in Excel.

About This E-Book
In this e-book I explain everything step-by-step, what I press on in order to apply the conditional formatting and create the rules. It also contains many different screenshots, where it is highlighted what I press on. This means that you will be able to memorize all of the steps and you will be able to apply conditional formatting to your own Excel spreadsheets.
This e-book is designed for a beginner/intermediate Excel user. You need to have Excel fundamentals such as how to open an Excel file and saving it. However, you do not need any advanced knowledge of Excel. The most difficult part of this e-book will be using formulas to create conditional formatting rules. However, each formula is explained before using it in order to make sure that you understand how they work. If you are an advanced Excel user, you might still want to read through this e-book, as this will refresh your knowledge and you might possibly learn some new tips.

What Excel Version Do I Need?
In this e-book I cover how the conditional formatting works using Excel 2010. The Excel versions are very similar from 2007 and onwards, meaning that this e-book is designed for users that have Excel 2007 or newer. If you have Excel version, which is older than 2007 some of the things covered in this e-book will not be applicable for you. Also, the conditional formatting menu will be different in the old version of Excel.
