When the writing sucked for the first 10 pages, it was written like an outline for a ghostwriter to slap into some semblance of a story...I should have stopped there.
But I didn't, and now you don't even have to read it :)
This was written in 3rd Person Omnipresent POV...sometimes not a problem for me, but here, it completely removed you from the book. Rather than being involved in the story, the reader is left looking in on a bad play.
I should have stopped at chapter 4 by which time we'd only had 10-15 lines of dialogue and a bunch of TELLING from the omnipresent 3rd Person. That's about the moment I started skimming :/
Then we got to the sex...yeah, not sure what the fuck is going on here. But it ain't sexy.
"...he gently guided his cock that now seemed longer than ever, deep inside her most private cavity."
"She could feel that her gusset was now drenched with her wetness, there was no disguising how much she wanted him."
Gusset, anyone?

I'm all for equal opportunity sluttiness, and good for this MC for exploring her boundaries, but I'm pretty sure some of her bucket list items are ethically questionable, and what does a journalist have if not her ethics!?!
Just off the bus in NYC, Amber Aiken-Wood has her first big girl apartment and job all lined up. As a digital data journalist for Morpheus Media Enterprises, Amber spends her days researching, writing and posting, but her nights are reserved for checking thigs off of her red hot bucket list:
1. Experience a range of sex toys
2. Experience a ménage à trois
3. Make out with another girl
4. Dabble in bondage
5. Steal the virginity of a younger/less experienced lover
6. Have sex outside or in a public place
7. Join the mile high club
8. Get laid at work
9. Have sex with a married man
10. Attend an orgy
11. Have sex with a stranger
12. Master the art of striptease
Amber gives herself one year to make it through her bucket list. After just a few months she is knocking things off left and right, sometimes experiencing them more than once, sometimes checking a few off in a single experience. Go along with Amber as she discovers herself during her first year in NYC.
Oh dear. For a book featuring journalists, I'm afraid Ms. Page could learn a thing or two from those in the real industry. From choppy, repetitive sentences and horrendously poor editing to a arrogant, vapid, obnoxious and vacuous heroine who got off on sleeping with taken dudes, there was absolutely nothing about THE RED HOT BUCKET LIST that I enjoyed. I feel like this book can be summed up by simply sharing a few snippits...you'll understand best that way. Note that all errors are as they appeared in the book (which is, by the way, the debut novel from a longtime professional writer):
"You have gorgeous breasts," he said, still smiling.
"I know," replied Amber in a confident tone, she wanted to keep up the pretence that she was a sexually confident woman of the world.
"Amber hardly felt that she wasn't the type to get star-struck and although this was her first few months in the big city and in the job, she already was well aware that it had the potential to take her anywhere and she could meet anyone at anytime."
"Amber was aroused her strong and powerful she felt."
"She over-acted in terms of the moaning and groaning, but she did not climax being pleasured by two men thrilled her but not in a way that she would relinquish control of her senses."
"Being so submissive was contrary to her tough professional exterior although she was finding that she enjoyed letting her guard down when it came to being nailed by Anton. It made her feel sleazy and that turned her on. Amber was overcome with expectation, she couldn't wait for the moment he entered her. She felt him expertly slide up inside her. She lifted up the arches of her feet up even higher so she could accommodate him a little more generously. She could do nothing but gasp as she felt him deep inside her. She felt almost as if he would split her in two, he felt that powerful. Amber's forehead and lips were pressed against the glass, she looked down at the bright lights of the city down below."
'"God! I can't get enough of your hole!" he called out as he climaxed."
"Amber felt red raw, she felt her body pulsating, she lifted her hands onto her head she felt the urge to ask him to stop but the pleasure it felt almost too intense but she wanted to let rip and she could feel that she was about to climax."
"Then he mounted her in the missionary position. This time is was not rough and ready, it was tender and loving, Amber felt fulfilled, She wanted to give herself over to Anton, she wanted to keep him satisfied."
I could literally go on and on...it was JUST that bad. Riddled with run-on sentences, contradictions, repeated thoughts and a really REALLY shifty MC, this book was one "what not to do" after another. It almost had the feel of a translated text by a non-English speaking person. I know that writing is hard and authors deserve a lot of credit for even getting a book put out there, but this debut novel is one that I won't be recommending to anyone.
Bottom Line: Read at your own peril. This novel would need one hell of an overall for the rating from me to go up.

The Red Hot Bucket List is about a twenty-four-year-old girl named Amber Aiken-Wood, who moves to New York after finishing graduate school for journalism in Boston, Massachusetts. Amber grew up in Edinburgh, Scotland, although her mother was of English decent and her father was American. Her parents did not stay together after she turned six. Additionally, her and her father did not have a close relationship, even though they stayed in contact with one another.
Moving forward, Amber gets a job being a Digital Data Journalist for a company called Morpheus Media Enterprises. While in New York, she has an intimate relationship with one of her co-workers, named Max Clark. Max does not want an emotional relationship with Amber, and as a result Amber feels very hurt that she was used as a one-night stand. After this encounter, Amber tells herself that she will no longer let others use her emotionally, and she decides that she will explore herself sexually and be in control of her personal life. As a result, she makes a list of twelve goals that she hopes to accomplish.
Max and his girlfriend, Susie Mathers, help her accomplish one of her goals, which was to be involved in a three-way. Regardless of what she had told herself, she becomes involved physically with Max, and he still does not want to leave his girlfriend, Susie, for her. Amber was not trying to separate Max and Susie, but she was hoping that because their relationship was inconsistent in the past, he would be exclusive to Amber.
Amber continues to try to complete her set of goals for herself and soon blogs about them, though when she makes her blog public, she does not include the names of people she encountered. Amber soon becomes involved with her boss, Anton, though their relationship eventually grows deeper and they agree to become exclusive to each other. He also convinces her to stop writing about her personal life unless it is about him and her, and she agrees. Anton moves to San Francisco as the company is taken over, and Amber goes with him.
This story will appeal to individuals who enjoy reading erotic novels, though the writing does not surpass the genre and will not appeal to individuals who usually do not read erotic novels or are not interested in the genre. As mentioned beforehand, this story mostly focuses on the erotic parts, though it could have gone more into depth about Millie, Amber’s roommate, aside from the fact that Amber had slept with her cousin. There were also some grammatical errors and sentence fragments throughout this novel.
Overall, this story served the purpose in taking the reader through Amber’s journey as she was trying to achieve the personal goals she had made for herself. The details of Amber’s journey were very well written, and while this book does not discuss Amber’s work life extensively and many of the minor characters traits are underdeveloped, it is still an erotic, leisurely novel to read.

A Woman on the Prowl!
Amber Aiken-Wood, is a 24-year-old, journalism graduate that has arrived in New York to start her Journalism career. She is originally from Scotland so she has that hot Scottish accent that easily gets her noticed. Amber has an encounter with a co-worker that inspires her to really discover her sexual prowess and she comes up with a blog titled the "Red Hot Bucket List". This list is a list of things that she wants to accomplish within 12 months.
Through her job and living out this list, Amber gets herself into some precarious risque' situations. Some of the things that happens to Amber, I found unbelievable. Seriously that situation just happens in every day life? Serendipity, maybe. Amber, by checking of her bucket list, meets a man from her office, who she starts to fall in love with, which I personally thought was a big mistake.
I have to say Amber should play the lottery with the luck that she has in this book. The book is obviously filled with a lot of sex but nothing too outlandish. I liked the way that Amber went from feeling insecure about her body to becoming a woman that owns her body. And that deserves a hell ya from me!

-Steamy, yet not too shocking. A good summer read!
'The Red Hot Bucket List’ follows Amber-Aiken-Wood, a journalist and from the beginning, it seems that she is about to embark on something completely different. I don’t normally opt for novels in this genre, but I'm currently trying to branch out. The scenes of a sexual nature weren't all that shocking and I thought that Amber was a likeable main character. I was a bit worried in case she was like Ana from Fifty Shades of Grey (what a pain she is!) but luckily, she wasn't. Amber was feistier and certainly knows her own mind.
I like the way that Malerie set the scenes, and I found myself laughing in a few slightly awkward places as things started to get a little bit- what shall I say....steamy?
Overall, I’d definitely read Malerie Page’s work again (although, maybe something in a different genre next time!) I’m secretly hoping that she has another novel ‘in progress.’
-Give this a go: I think it might be something ideal to read while you’re sipping cocktails by the pool on a foreign holiday. I mean, for a bargain price of £1.99 / $3.04, you can’t go wrong.

This is the story of 24 year old Amber, a sexually-naive Scottish lass recently graduated from Journalism school whose first job is in New York City. THIS will be her "break out" year! She makes a list on her laptop (because this is how she does things) of twelve things she'
d like to do outside of her Comfort Zone. One for each month? Maybe. More important is the time limit: her 25th birthday. She names this list after a dress color and how it makes her feel. No one knows of this list not even her flatmate, a model living more out of a suitcase.
These events just seem to "fall into her lap" as she's not hanging around bars. The first few encounters are with a colleague as are most of them. Each time, she trades up and learns a bit more about herself, her likes and her dislikes as well. When she finally joins the "Mile High Club" things begin to take a turn. For Better? For Worse? Read and make up your own mind.
I highly recommend this book. Especially romance seekers!

Insanely hot!
An erotically-charged story of Amber Aiken-Wood as she navigates the New York dating jungle! She makes an erotic list for herself, determined to experience all kinds of sexual shenanigans on her way to finding true love. You'll laugh and feel frustrated with Amber, at the men and women she encounters on this journey. One thing I'll say for Amber--she's adventurous and daring!
The narrative is too rambling, in my opinion. It needs tightening up. Be warned that there are all sorts of sexual exploits. My pet peeve is that she also took up with married men or men who are in a relationship, and no matter how confused these men are, involved is involved and I was uncomfortable reading that. One of the men is in an open relationship, and since this is erotica, so perhaps he can be excused.
In any case, The Red Hot Bucket List is a different kind of chick lit, to be sure! Insanely hot!

VERY LAVISH AND VERY STEAMY
This is a very inspiring story told through a perspective of a smart, hot and adventurous Amber. I find myself entertained after putting the book down. The scenes also made me feel very hot. The Red Hot Bucket List was written ingeniously. The romantic scenes might be a bit too much, one after one, but you won't never have enough!
I was able to relate myself to the protagonist, Amber, since I'm also a Journalism graduate and I find inspiration to her courage to discover the deeper meaning of her womanhood (without having to sacrifice her career).
The reason behind the four stars: typographical errors are a bit noticeable every now and then. I just hope to bring this to your attention. Some readers might not ignore it. But this did not affect the story at all. Still very good.
