I liked this book about my alma mater Carter High, and I re-read it this year. It covers a period in Dallas at the intersections of white patriarchy, black youth, and the mistakes of youth. The final culmination is victory over self and a community's pride as it supported its young men to give them a second chance. I have had the opportunity to interview the author, and I look forward to interviewing Gart Edwards again.
A great read about the 1988 Dallas Carter High School scandal. Covering the grade controversy that eventually stripped them of their State Championship title, as well as the armed robberies committed by the author and several other players. It's very sad but shows the importance of doing the right thing and the consequences if you don't.
