Truths that Create or Enhance Loving Relationships: The Christian Perspective

Rate this book
This book explores conceptions of truths that create or enhance loving relationships within the context of interactions between God and everyday people or countries in the Old Testament. This book is written such that anyone interested in finding out more about the Christian God can better understand what the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, The Father of Jesus Christ ("The Father") is all about. In this book for instance, you will discover that the The Father can be categorized as a "Feminist" if feminism is viewed within the context of protections afforded women in ancient societies. You will also find The Father put in place principles that facilitated self actualization and social nets for people in need of financial support at any point in time. If you desire to acquire practical truths that are beneficial for daily living, this book is for you.

I have, for four years running been ranked as a top 10% researcher on what currently is the most reputable platform in dissemination of new research, the 'Social Science Research Network (SSRN)', which is owned by Elsevier. With more than 60 scientific research papers, and with more than half of those papers consisting of formal theoretical models, my research straddles both formal theoretical modeling, and empirical modeling. I bring my research acumen to bear in authoring of my reference text titled, 'Research Design & Choice of Methodology: A theory based practical approach'.

While the best work on spirituality first, and foremost are inspired by God, this because a god one can conceive, in entirety, within his or her own mind is no greater than one's capacity for imagination, I bring my considerable research acumen to authoring of all of my books on Spirituality. If you seek practical or pragmatic spiritual truth for daily living, I doubt you can do better than a fellow layman who is inspired by God, and who brings tools of rationality, reasoning, and evidence to bear on his or her articulation of Spirituality. Why is this? When a fellow layman who is inspired to write shares his insights into Spirituality, his or her incentives are not colored by any visions of future streams of tithe and offering coming from you, the reader; so then, he or she has incentive to tell you the truth as it is in Jesus Christ.

I love to play squash or bike, love to listen to Christian music, and wholesome secular music. Favorite musicians include Phil Driscoll, Hillsong Worship, Michael W. Smith, The Imperials, Kirk Franklin, Earl Klugh, Lionel Richie, the group, Sade, Michael Jackson, Billy Ocean, etc. Favorite movies include the Matrix and Lord of the Rings Trilogies, Maleficent, The Book Thief, Red Cliff, and Tokarev. All movies of Jesus Christ, of necessity, incorporate artistic license that, for me, waters down essence of life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

While a science student in High School, I read the History of England and a compilation of Prose and Poetry (included all of the famous poets like Tennyson etc.) out of curiosity. Favorite novels include The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas Pere; Persuasion by Jane Austen; Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery, and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. From the words by Huckleberry Finn that were society to invert the reward system, such that he would go to hell for hiding a runaway slave, that he would be fine with hiding a runaway slave, I knew I was on to go a good read from Mark Twain.

The four books on Spirituality that, perhaps, have impacted me the most are: True Spirituality by Francis Schaeffer; Reduce Me to Love by Joyce Meyer; The Kneeling Christian by an Anonymous Christian; and The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren.

I am a firm believer in importance of knowledge or education, and absence of contradictions between demand for evidence and importance of faith, hope, and love. While faith does not demand facts, else it ceases to be faith, it always seeks to ensure that the leap from evidence to faith can be deemed a leap that eminently is reasonable. I am a believer in the name of Jesus Christ. I have four lovely kids - three boys and a girl.

Is the God of the New Testament a God of love and the God of the Old Testament a God of wrath? Some see a loving God who sends his Son to die on the cross for the sins of the world in the New Testament, and a God who wipes the world out with the flood and constantly disciplined Israel for their sins in the Old Testament irreconcilable.

Truths that Create or Enhance Relationships written by Dr. Oghenovo Obrimah, PhD in Business from Yale, tackles this question by looking at stories of God’s relationships with people in the Old Testament and comparing them to Christ’s interactions in the New. While conclusively showing that the character of God the Father and Christ are one in the same, he pulls out life lessons that can enhance every relationship.

Here is a sample of the life lessons drawn from the interactions of the leper Naaman with his subordinates in 2 Kings 5. Dr. Oghenovo shares:

“Life Lesson 12: If you are not approachable simply because you are a leader, the proportion of your decisions that are mistakes will increase.”

“Life Lesson 13: If you treat subordinates that understand the principle of love right, you get respect and advice that is born out of love not only for agreed objectives but also for your personal welfare.”

“Life Lesson 14: If your subordinates do not understand the principle of love, find subordinates that understand the principle of love. Why? A subordinate that regards your openness to suggestions as weakness will never respond with respect to openness that is born out of an understanding of what it means to love people around you, including your subordinates.”

Towards the end of the book, he also tackles the common assumption that the God of the Bible is chauvinistic. By looking at God’s protection over women in the Mosaic Law, he shows that God is a “feminist”—meaning he cares for women in a male dominated society.

The book has an interesting feel. It reads like a thorough investigation of a thesis—that God’s character in the Old Testament is the same as the New—and yet also reads like a well-prepared Bible study. I enjoyed it. Since God is triune and relationship is part of his identity, it only makes sense that we would study him to enhance our relationships. Dr. Oghenovo’s book Truths that Create or Enhance Relationships will help in this endeavor.
