The Heart of an Animal

From the Back Cover

The Heart Of An Animal is the second collection of poems by Elias Siqueiros. The poems in this volume focus on the individual and his relation to the city. The city appears as witness, lover, enemy, or executioner. The poet must separate himself from the world in order to make a song of it. In this separation lies his identity as something other and in this otherness he recognizes the possibility of a unification of his self with that other enigma;community. The poems in this volume are driven by an internal logic -that the world is a shattered mirror and in order to see one's self one must assemble the pieces through song and ritual.
