The book opens with a Glossary of words, and their meanings, that children may find tricky to comprehend.
P.I. is a gorgeous little penguin but he is also a private investigator. If you have a problem to solve P.I. is the one to call. He looks the part in his shirt, tie, black jacket and fedora hat.
P.I. gets a call from Detective Pete, a pigeon. There is a thief at the Bell Tower. P.I. goes straight to the Bell Tower by ferry. The guardsman are two black swans (I thought this was cute because the Perth Bell Tower is home of the Swan Bells). P.I. gathers evidence and interviews his suspects who all have an alibi. But the culprit is the unlikeliest one you would suspect. Another case solved.
The stories are short at 32 pages and easy to read in rhyming prose. It is good to read them in order because they do have the continuing plot of P.I.’s missing family.
The books are written to help and encourage children with dyslexia to embrace reading. However are fun reads for all ages and abilities.
"P.I. Penguin and the Case of the Bell Tower Bandit" by Bec. J. Smith is the second book that my 9 year old daughter and I read together. We enjoyed the story of P.I. and his animal friends. The mystery happens when P.I. is called to come and figure out what is happening to the bell atop a bell tower. Seems like someone doesn't like the bell and is making it not work right. It is up to P.I. to find out who the culprit is, and we go along on this journey.
It is a perfect book for children 9 and younger. Early readers may need help with reading from their parents, but it is written in a way that is fun for children to learn. The illustrations are also beautifully done.
PI Penguin, an adorable penguin detective, is once again on the trail of a mystery. He helps his fellow animals whenever they have a mystery that needs his expert help.
Children will love this and all PI Penguin books for the fun storylines, clever rhyming verses, and colorful and beautifully created illustrations. These illustrations are creative and match the storyline perfectly.
As an author of children's books and other genres I highly recommend these books for young children and early readers. I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Not kindle unlimited, remember getting them all as a freebie pack a while back, says 4 book series so assume the christmas one is 5, since my vision issues are not dyslexia etc can't say much about that, and it being children's book the formatting and spacking seems decent/good, but the legally blind thing eh not so much {and can't enlarge smaller text because just doesn't work with the size needed} but did switch {chromebook} from readium {reader} to Simple Epub Reader and put that on audio so was able to 'read' the books. Sometimes, either way, the 'rhymes' didn't quite work but doubtful a kid would notice.

This particular one was a little confusing. There’s a bandit in the bell tower. What was he stealing though? Was he just trespassing? What was the crime? Did the bandit just disengage the bells? Not the world’s worst crime.
The pace in the story was a little bit slower than the previous. But again, readers will be regaled with fun rhymes and colorful illustrations.
