Looking After Your Own

Rate this book
The lives and personalities of the tenants of a Paisley tenement building in 1941 couldn't be more different, but they are all interconnected. From young bride Celia Goudie to Frank McCosh, all are worried about the war - little realizing that more immediate danger comes from within.

They're not sea lions, they're walruses. In the fountain of Fountain Gardens, as seen on the cover.

I paused about half-way through, having remembered Paisley's major tragedy of WWII, and the handling of it was reasonably tactful.

I read it because it was Paisley, and it's not very Paisley - what local would call Paisley Abbey by the full name? - but it's well enough. It's what you expect from this sort of book, family fights and nosy neighbours and lying to husbands, with an added background of wartime deprivation and tragedy, and it's a decent read if that's what you're after.
