The world is full of brilliant people who freeze the moment a webcam turns on. I have spent a lot of years watching it happen. If you'd like to do something about it, I can help.

When I am trying to make a point, I often find a way to illustrate it with a film. The King's Speech, The Social Network, Shawshank, Jerry Maguire, Parts Unknown — the book I have just written, An Audience From Anywhere, is built that way. Every chapter, anchored in a scene. I blame my father for this. He started his career in the South African film industry in the 1970s and spent it helping build the structures that made the country a viable place for filmmakers to work. Watching movies at home with him was rarely just watching. He'd talk about the lens. He'd talk about why the character was lying. The two conversations were the same conversation.

I started my own career in the industry in the 1990s. Came to Los Angeles, studied at UCLA Extension, ran FilmCrafter for fifteen years — work for the 2008 Obama campaign, Intel, UCLA, the XPRIZE Foundation, Soho House, SailGP. I produced TEDx Santa Monica during the years it featured Sir Ken Robinson, who became one of the heroes of the book.

An Audience From Anywhere comes out June 2026. I live in Santa Monica. Graduate of Seth Godin's altMBA.
