This book wow-ed me. Perhaps the most brilliant history I read in recent years. The author's grasp of world economy, the shifting labor market in Osaka, postcolonial analysis of Okinawa and Okinawan migrants, is amazing. This is not a fluffy theory of national identity. Very nitty-gritty and yet its implication goes beyond Okinawa and Japan.
