Gummy and The Ferret
Gummy the Pitbull lives temporarily at the local shelter for lost animals. Her Persons aren't able to keep her because they are expecting twins in the fall. Gummy makes new friends that help her overcome losing her family. She makes one particular friend that she hopes will be her friend forever.

" Gummy and The Ferret" by Barbara Morgan is a very nice children's book. Besides being a cute story how Gummy (the dog) and the ferret live happily ever after because they get adopted by the same family, this book also delivers a lot of interesting information.
Children learn,
"... At the shelter they did so many nice things for the animals that were homeless or left behind or not taken care of. They cleaned them up, cut their nails, gave them baths and treated them with all the necessary medicines they might need. They took good care of the dogs and cats and ferrets and rabbits and chickens and almost any kind of animal that needed a home..."
I was amazed how much content the author packed into this book.
For instance this short passage clarifies how animals end up in a shelter. They are
• homeless
• left behind
• not taken care of
The staff at the shelter takes care of the animals by
• cleaning them up,
• cutting their nails,
• giving them baths
• treating them with all the necessary medicines they might need
I believe that this is a very valuable book, a book children might want to read again and again, because not only is the story cute, this book answers many of the questions youngsters may have.

Gummy and the Ferret is a wonderful story about the friendship between a dog and a ferret. It also teaches children about the important work animal shelters provide to all kinds of animals looking for their forever home. My two daughters really enjoyed reading this book. I recommend it for your kids.

This is a cute story to share with your child. It is easy enough for a kid to read on his or her own. The story is sweet and teaches the reader to be kind to animals. Gummy, the dog, and Finian, the ferret, make great pals in the animal shelter. They make each other feel wanted. Happy ending, too! Looking forward to sharing more stories from Barbara Morgan with my kids!
