Theme: The theme of this book is to follow your dreams and the necessity of working hard to achieve your goals.
Rating: 4 out of 5
Personal Response: I liked this book because I believe it is a great book for really young children who have read for a little while, however are not the best readers. This book has large, chunky pages so that it is easier for a young child to turn the pages. Similarly, the big, simple art style is easier for children to see the picture and relate it to the text. I gave this book a 4 out of 5 because some of the pictures do not show the detail that the text gives, which is important because children need context clues in order to decipher the written words.
Why I Recommend: I recommend this book because it is a short and simple story that is easy to follow, with one main character and one minor side character. Moreover, this book is a good way to teach a child how the aspects of a story work-- how you read from left to right and you start at the top and move to the bottom. These are components that early readers need to know so that they can grow in their reading ability.
