The glitter of gold drew them together…but danger might blow them apart.

Elite Operators, Book 2

As Nicola Holt, head of social and corporate responsibility for Garraway Gold, takes her seat on a flight to central Africa, she’s excited about making a real difference in a country recovering from civil conflict.

And a blood-pumping bonus? The hot guy she spotted at the gate isn’t just her seatmate, he’s her ride to Garraway’s Hambani mine. He’s also a gentleman, as she discovers when he deftly takes care of a couple of unruly passengers.

Explosives expert Warren Copley is headed for a private contract job in his least favorite industry—gold mining—thanks to a temporary suspension from South Africa’s elite tactical police division, the Special Task Force. But even the darkest clouds have a silver lining, and this one comes in the form of the easy-on-the-eyes redhead who turns out to be his coworker.

As soon as they touch down they realize Hambani isn’t on an even keel. In fact, it’s balanced precariously on the machete-edge of complete destruction. And before they can discover the combustible attraction between them, they’ll have to escape with their lives.

Warning: Contains two strong-willed individuals, a country on the brink of collapse, and a powder-keg attraction with sensual, explosive results.

I enjoyed reading this book because for once it wasn't about the Navy Seals, American Military guys in the romantic suspense department. I loved the female lead Nicola Holt is as bad as they come. She made it in a world of men with keeping her moral compass in tact. Even though she was raised to love the earth she needed to follow her own path as the head of social and corporate responsibility for Garraway Gold. The author painted her as hard but soft. She does what she believes to be right even if its not always the popular.
Explosives expert Warren Copley is sent to work with Nicola Holt as the security expert. Rebecca Crowley painted him as very quite, shy the opposite of everything someone in his job would be.
They clash, they find each other hot and the sex is written though out the book creating a very even story with action or sex no dominating the story. It ends with a happy ever after but I loved that the author pointed out that with two strong personalities it wasn't always easy but it was worth it!
This book is worth a pool read but keep a cold glass of water near by.

This book was offered to me in exchange for an honest review.

Short Fuse is set in a fictional African country on a mine. Having lived in a third world African country and been in contact with people working in mines, I have to say the author created such an authentic setting - she took us right into the reality of what it's like in Africa where greed comes into play. Her knowledge of South African culture, Africa and the mining industry is exemplary. This book was well-written, with tight descriptions, great flow and plenty of suspense! At first, I couldn't identify with the super-alpha hero and the very independent heroine but then they grew on me as their vulnerabilities and humanness emerged. A heart-stopping, suspenseful and romantic read.

It's been quite some time since I read the first book in this series so I was anxious that it would take some time to get back up to speed with who was who. Can I say that I was SO relieved that the author did not introduce any characters from the first book until approx. 2/3 of the way through the book. This gave me time to invest in the characters, setting and story line and not get anxious that I couldn't recall people from the first book.

This was a refreshing read. No silly misunderstandings an interesting story line and hooray!! The heroine DID NOT get kidnapped for once!

This book had incredibly well drawn characters. The setting in Africa was very interesting and the author's knowledge of the mining industry there put us right into the action. I liked this book also because it had a more substantial story than a lot of romances have. It is very well written and really draws the reader into the characters and the story. I can't wait for the next book by this author!
