I’ve found that the books are not that useful when studying for these certs.

The practice tests are a fantastic study tool but the information in the study guide is terribly presented.

Hallelujah! Reading a big book in 2 days! Probably this is my third time reading this book.
Too much Effort and Energy I put here in a such short time, totally worth it.
The book is great, too many topics covered in 10 different chapters, some of which are depended to one another.
Though, topics could be sorted in a more efficient manner, reader will get the whole idea of each topic after reading it.
Despite the comprehensiveness of this book, it is not a great reference. Readers should take it as if it's a great book to familiarize themselves to a vast range of topics supported by Linux operating system, but they still need to dig deeper in each topic until they really get their feet wet.
I'm using Linux for more than 5 years by now. Still, this book has a lot to teach me each time I read it.
In my third review of this book, I focused more on what takes me to a better understanding of programming in Linux operating system, such as logging service, service manager or generally systemd, kernel driver management, linker, mail service and networking.
This book is definitely not a one time read!
I'm going to read this book in a long run again. Need to do some deep searching!

On my way to taking a LPIC 1 and 2-certification, I picked this up. I know quite a lot of Linux, and I'm a fairly advanced user - still there were some topics I hadn't dwelled into before. The book gives you a fine overview of different topics. To pass the certification though, I'm sure you must read man pages, experiment and look some things up on Internet. Linux is for life long learning, but this book helps you on the way.

I read it through thrice - the first time to get the big picture, the second to memorize more details and the third as a guide on what to experiment with IRL.

Coming from a software engineers perspective, this book is absolutely amazing. Almost all of the information Christine and Richard provide is incredibly concise with small supplemental notes provided periodically for historical context. The chapters end in difficult quizzes with answers in the back explaining why some answers are more right than others or reasons some don't pertain. I originally planned on putting sticky tabs on helpful sections but it'd be really hard to manage a mess of that many tabs. To make a single complaint, the LPIC cert should drop requirements of local mail servers. That's not particularly a fault of the book itself though.

This book was full of great tips along with enough exercises to learn the material. Also, the content was expressed in a very fluent manner and was understandable.
