Lobbying Illinois: How You Can Make a Difference in Public Policy

Rate this book
Lobbying Illinois is a primer on how to lobby state government in Illinois. Lobbying Illinois is written especially for people and groups with public policy goals, but little or no experience in the policy-making arena. Lobbying Illinois explains the basics of the legislative process and lobbying, how to work strategically within the legislative and administrative processes, how to build coalitions and grassroots organizations, and the basic rules and ethics of lobbying.

I was assigned this book as part of my Master of Social Work coursework ("Social Welfare Policy & Services").

Unfortunately, I think this book is a poor primer to lobbying in Illinois. I have virtually no background in political science and this book was hard for me to keep up with. This book read like a dictionary, with definition after definition thrown at the reader without any context to understand them. Granted, the Illinois government is indeed complicated, but I wish this book would have been written in a more user-friendly way.
