The author gave me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Having peeled my own layers back, I learned that there was something underneath. I wasn't perfect, but I was becoming more whole with every day that passed.

Fractured Karma has touched me in ways I could not have imagined. This is a masterfully done suspense action book; somewhat blurring the distinct line between the good and the bad. filled with harsh realities that will break your heart into pieces. But most of all, this is a book of hope and redemption.

Mark Brewer run away from a group home when he was fifteen. Without any plan and anything but the clothes he was in, he roam the cold streets of the city. Someone took a pity on him but fate was such a cruel witch sometimes, something happened that forced him to run away again.

Then, a man named Lenny took him under his wing and taught him to lift cars among other things. The glitzier the car, the higher the bragging rights. He was good at it and never been at crossroads with the law. On the first time he set his eyes on something bigger, a cherry red Ferrari, he never expected his life to have a major detour.

Mark believed he was alone in this world since his mother left him and his brother was reportedly dead. He didn't have a good past but an opportunity to do good comes, only with a hefty price.

description

I love Mark's character. He has a pragmatic look on life, given the circumstances that he grew up with. He is not a bad person but was put into a place where he needs to do anything to scrape by. He is smart and is the kind you could turn on to when the going gets tough.

Then Mark met Libby hustling at a pool game and later learned that she connects him with someone from his past.

I never notice that there isn't any romance happening yet until I am halfway through the book. How could I when I am so immersed with the organization Mark was in?! I think romance is the least of my worries then.

Libby have her own demons from the past. She grew up in a broken home with a father that was consumed by drugs most of the time. It was messy; she managed to scrape by, but vowed never to be associated with anyone involved with drugs one way or another. She met Mark and cannot seem to break down the walls the mysterious man has built.

“You do know me.”

“No. I know who you want me to see. If you were a cardboard cut-out, you would be perfect. You are handsome, funny, you dress nice, and you are someone I’d like to spend some time with. But you’re not cardboard. You’re a person, and I need to know who you really are.”

I walked into this book thinking this is full-blown romance but Nancy Straight gave me more than that. I was hooked with the mystery, suspense and action that Nancy offered in a big heaping plate. She also made my cry on the morning commute, twice. (Just a fair warning, bring tissues with you anywhere you go while reading this book.) I definitely recommend it to mob romance fanatics, suspense and action junkies, and actually to anyone I know!

There are some parts I wish would have a different outcome, but where would be the fun (and grief) in that?

Fractured Karma is the second book in the Brewer Brothers Series. The first book is His Frozen Heart and the conclusion to the series is Shroud of Lies.

What can I say about this book? It's unlike the other books in Nancy's series and yet she doesn't stray from her ability to weave a story with such passion that you find yourself (literally) laughing out loud and crying throughout the narration.

"Fractured Karma" is the tale of Mark Brewer. We met him and his brother Dave in book one, "His Frozen Heart." Unlike Nancy's other tales where a female lead tells the story, Nancy provides the story from Mark's perspective. This makes for a very good read and interesting tale. I certainly don't want to spoil anything, as many of my friend's curiosity was peeked in the first book while wondering what the story was behind the mysterious Mark. Needless to say, I do not think fans will be disappointed. As I read through the tale, I could not help but feel a real connection with Mark's character. His back story and struggles are compelling and emotional. I think many readers who have been guessing will be surprised when they learn his story.

I'm a huge fan of Nancy Straight's work and have one or two favorites in her portfolio that I absolutely love; however, "Fractured Karma" has quickly swooped in and taken the lead as my all time favorite. Mystery, romance, adventure, and suspense make for one fun ride and Nancy has found the perfect formula to blend it all together.

Another great book from one of my favorite authors!! It's a good thing I had a day off because I picked up this book this morning and could not put it down until I finished it! I loved getting tidbits of His Frozen Heart from Mark's perspective and then learning more about the great character Mark is. He might not be the guy you want to bring home to meet the parents but with a heart like his to go along with his bad boy status... you can't help but to love him. When the secrets he holds not only puts him in danger but could also harm the ones he loves... Mark has to tread carefully with every move he makes or someone might end up dead. This book was incredible and I cannot wait to see what the third installment holds.

I am a huge fan of Nancy Straight and have yet to be disappointed by one of her books. I absolutely loved “His Frozen Heart”, but I think the second book in the Brewer Brother’s Series, “Fractured Karma”, surpassed my feeling in the first book. Making it my favorite book write by Nancy Straight thus far.

Readers briefly met Mark Brewer while reading “His Frozen Heart”, but he was quite mysterious. In “Fractured Karma” readers get to see his side of the story. The entire book was from his point of view, and I have to admit this is only the second book that I have read that was mainly from the male point of view and Nancy did a great job delivering the story this way. Mark lived an interesting life and the more I read his story the more I liked him. Mark encountered many different types of people and formed many relationships on his journey. I did have my favorite characters and I did dislike a few. I also like the fact that the book had chapters from when Mark was 15 and 18, before diving into his life at 22. I think those few chapters really helped develop Mark as a character. I also liked that I was able to read the perspective of Mark from some of the scenes in the first book. I always wondered about him in those parts and I now know the answers.

I don’t want to give any of the plot away and I know if I start talking about all my favorite parts, that I will completely give away all the parts that kept me on the edge of seat. All I will say is I loved Mark Brewer and he is definitely a book boyfriend in my eyes!

The last thing I will say I cannot wait for the third book in the series to come out. Please, Nancy don’t make me wait too long!!! I have a feeling what it’s going to be about and I cannot wait to learn more about these Brewer Brothers!!!

Fractured Karma by Nancy Straight is about Mark Brewer, a foster home kid who grows up to follow a life of crime, but don’t let that mislead you. Sometimes even the bad guys have good intentions. While Mark works his way up in the crime organization, his past comes back to haunt him. Can he do what he set out to do without getting everyone he cares about killed?

Nancy Straight hits a homerun with Fractured Karma, the Brewer Brothers Book 2. Set primarily in Kansas City, this story is filled with reasons to keep reading. From the engaging viewpoint of this young man who was given away by his mom, the reader quickly learns that nothing is black and white, and even criminals have a code of honor. Mark uses common sense to gain the trust crime boss, but at the same time, he has a hard time understanding that the omission of information is often as damaging as lying. It is only through a series of unfortunate events combined with the love of a good woman that he finally learns that his true self is the man worthy of love and trust.

I highly recommend starting this book early in the day because you won’t want to put it down until you have read every last page. Straight is a creative genius when it comes to developing captivating characters. Mark’s journey through life will allow you to travel an emotional rollercoaster of discovery, joy and sometimes sadness. Her fictional crime organization feels more like a family than a group of dishonest thugs. Her plot will make you look at everyone around you just a little differently, and her romance will make you feel young again no matter your age.

I'll be quite honest with you. When I first started this book I wasn't really into it. There was a lot of backstory at the beginning. It wasn't until around 20% in before things started clicking together for me and getting good. Once again, my habit of not reading a blurb before I start a book has come into play. Yeah, I didn't put 2 and 2 together that this book had a lot to do with book 1. My defense...it's been awhile since I read HIS FROZEN HEART. But anyhow, once I got going past that point, I found it increasingly hard to put down.

I know that I should have hated everything Mark did and the man he worked for but I couldn't. I really liked Johnny and found it hard to be displeased with him and the operations he ran. Even though Mark couldn't tell, I could see that Johnny really cared for him. I wonder if that makes me a bad person for liking the bad guy. Or maybe I am one of those that see the good in the bad. I don't know, but I really liked this story and the characters within it.

FRACTURED KARMA was a fantastic story that once it got my attention I wanted to read it every chance I got. I would eagerly start it up whenever I found I had a bit of spare time. (Which wasn't often this past week). Straight once again writes a story with suspense and intrigue that pulled at my curiosity. Curiosity that kept my mind spinning with different scenarios on how this could end with Mark coming out unscathed. I just couldn't see it. Now I cannot wait to start SHROUD OF LIES! 5 Edge Of Your Seat Stars!

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is the second book following the Brewer brothers, this time from Mark's POV. The first book was okay, but most of the time the characters - Candy and Libby really bothered me. This time, the book stayed close to Mark, who was not irritating!

It was a good shift in POV (from female to male), and I applaud the author for doing it so flawlessly. Mark is a conflicted guy who went through a traumatic ordeal as a young boy. The author gives enough details about Mark's past to make his thoughts, actions, etc now make sense. I liked Mark 90% of the time. I was mostly annoyed with him regarding his love interest. Then the author takes a surprising turn (I won't give anything away) but I was so pleased with the way things changed. I'm not 100% happy with the end, as I thought he deserved better, but still.

Anyhow, I love how Mark evolved. He's a smart, caring guy navigating a corrupt and dangerous world. He keeps his head on straight and has a strong sense of self-preservation.

Not sure how the author constructed the criminal world so thoroughly and plausibly (I'm not a criminal, maybe it's not plausible...), but I like learning about it all.

Dark but hopeful book!

Definitely different from the first book but still so good! I was entertained and flipping pages like a mad woman all day. The book is written entirely in Mark's point of view and it's done really well. The romance doesn't really start up until halfway through the book but please don't let that scare you off because I usually hate books like that. But this book is so good that you won't even care! Read it! But be sure to read the first book in the series first :)

Suspenseful and beautiful

Marks story is one of courage, struggle, finding his place in the world and discovering that family and love comes in many shapes. His story was suspenseful, heart breaking, beautiful and so much more. We get to see him come full circle and right all of his wrongs and get the fault he's lined for all of his life. I can't wait to dive into the final book and see what's to come of them all!

I'm not a romance reader and honestly I tend to steer clear of romance books altogether, however I love stories about brothers so decided to give this series a shot. I am so glad I did. It is a great story and I love how the two books tell two sides of the same story (at least in the beginning). I read His Frozen Heart (book 1) on Monday and couldn't wait to read Fractured Karma so I started it the very next day and finished it by Wednesday morning. I rarely write reviews but this series deserved it. Now I'm ready to start Shroud of Lies and I'm excited to learn more about Davey and Mark. I have to admit though, I'm team Mark

This book was so much better than the first one. It could have been read as a stand alone honestly because it had the first story in it from Mark’s POV, albeit condensed. Mark has a incredibly more complicated life than any other character in this series. I totally connected with him more than Dave. His quandry of keeping his family safe from his lifestyle was beautifully articulated by Mrs.Straight. The research that must have went into this book kinda boggles the mind because each facet of his life is portrayed with just enough for us to get a glimpse into his thinking; without it being repetitive and boring.

And honestly, the romance aspect was only ‘meh’ for me. I wasn’t really invested in the matchmaking part of this story. And if I’m being 100 percent honest, I didn’t like his match in this book. And it wasn’t that I didn’t like Libby as a character, I just thought his story didn’t need the romance. The family bit was enough.

The fine line he walked between covering his ass and doing what was right was soooooo narrow. I was amazed he didn’t misstep. He lived two completely seperate lives. And somehow was able to juggle it without dropping any balls. Although he did stumble a few times.

And the ending! I can’t really say much more than that. I wanted to hate it, but it fit. Square peg, square hole. Just right.

Fractured Karma by Nancy Straight is the story of one young man who had lived in foster homes and group homes for most of his life. After running away at the age of 15, he’s lived on the streets, committing petty crimes to stay alive until one day when he gets caught. Mark Brewer tried to steal a Ferrari. The cop who pulls him over was a former roommate at the group home. He decides to cut Mark a deal. He’ll let him pass for the grand theft, if he can turn informant against Johnny Corozzo, the local crime boss who has hands in many different ventures. Mark reluctant agrees and he works his way up through the ranks of Johnny’s crew. Until one day, he is within the inner circle. As he feeds information to the cops, Mark learns a surprising news. Could it be true? Or is it a plot to take him out of Johnny’s crew? Will he be able to leave the crew alive?
Fractured Karma is a great book. It was thrilling and mysterious as the reader follows Mark on his dangerous double life. You eagerly turn the page, reading furiously, always wondering if Mark will get caught. As you read, you feel for Mark as he tries to figure out the information which will turn his life around. Will he find the truth about his past? About his family? I can’t say much about the book as it would spoil the sequence of events. I can say that I eagerly await more stories about Mark Brewer. I highly recommend Fractured Karma.

I am a huge fan of Nancy Straight and have yet to be disappointed by one of her books. I absolutely loved “His Frozen Heart”, but I think the second book in the Brewer Brother’s Series, “Fractured Karma brought the house down! This series has become one of my favorite contemporary romance suspense series. Not to mention the intrigue and well written plot. Did I mention the hot Brother Mark? The dark, mysterious older brother. Get ready for a wild ride. This story brings it all. Suspense, romance, and one heck of a OMG moments!

I don’t want to give any of the plot away and I know if I start talking about all my favorite parts, that I will completely give away all the parts that kept me on the edge of seat. All I will say is I loved Mark Brewer and he is definitely a book boyfriend swoon worthy!

I'm in book hangover mode right now, and cannot wait to learn more about these HOT Brewer Brothers!!! Well done Nancy Straight! I'm ready for Shroud of Lies!

I am always intrigued when an author writes from the hero POV. Having his journey through life has allowed the reader to travel all the emotional rollercoaster of discovery joy plus sadness. What made my heart sing was have chapters from when Mark was 15, 18, and 22. Listening to his thoughts, seeing his actions made his character a smart, caring guy with a strong sense of self-preservation.

This book has suspense, mystery, adventure, and romance. I found this story incredible and enjoyed this fun ride and would pick up the next book.
