All He Asks, Episodes 1-3

Rate this book
This boxed set collects the first three episodes of ALL HE ASKS, a dark romantic drama based on Gaston LeRoux's Phantom of the Opera.

Episode One
Christine is more than your average author’s assistant. She’s the unappreciated literary genius who’s been secretly ghostwriting Sylvia Stone’s worldwide bestsellers for the last five years, and Sylvia wants Christine to keep writing for her…forever.

But Erik Duke, bestselling horror author, thinks Christine can do better than ghostwriting women’s fiction. He’s been secretly tutoring her as she works as his assistant, and Christine’s talent is flourishing. He sees a big career ahead for Christine. More than that, he sees a partnership between himself and Christine that goes beyond the written word to somewhere much more intimate…

The intensity of Erik’s obsession with Christine frightens her, yet she can’t resist digging into the secrets this broken, tortured man is harboring. What is Erik hiding behind the mask of his emotions? What’s in his basement? And why is he so bent on controlling Christine’s career?

Episode Two
Christine has made a mistake becoming tangled in Erik Duke’s life. As an assistant to bestselling authors, it’s a professional problem to get physically involved with her world-famous client. Worse than that, it might be dangerous. Erik’s life is a web of secrets she can’t begin to unravel.

But now that he has her, Erik won’t let her leave. He’s sneaking around, making demands at the publishing company in her favor, and watching her every move. She’s afraid…but entranced.

Raoul Chance, lead editor, wants a piece of Christine too. She’s wanted him since they were children. Yet there’s a wall between them—a wall that he’s desperately trying to breach even as Christine falls tighter into Erik’s grip…

Episode Three
Erik Duke, a reclusive and mysterious author, has finally come out of hiding to make his demands known. He’s furious that the publishing company has defied him. And he plans to get his revenge.

Christine Durand longs for the safety of Raoul Chance’s arms, but she can’t seem to tear her heart away from Erik. He holds a piece of her that nobody else can touch. His darkness is sweet seduction--even when politics at Durand-Price turn deadly…

I am going to rate each episode.

Episode 1 - 5 stars.
Episode 2 - 4 Stars
Episode 3 - 3 Stars

The author did an amazing job developing Christine, Erik, and Raoul. Christine is a ghost writer for a very famous author. She is also an assistant to another famous author, the dark and mysterious Erik Duke who never leaves his house. Erik Duke writes thrillers and from distance he is as scary as his books. Raoul is Christine’s childhood friend who just recently came to be the new editor at the Durand-Price Publishing House where Christine works and that Christine’s father helped found the corporation. But right before Christine’s father dies, he sold his stock. So now Christine is left to assist two of the top authors at the Durand-Price Publishing instead of being to be the actual named author.

Erik Duke has taken Christine under his wing. He only allows Christine to come to his house. Erik has also helped Christine with her writing. He encourages her to be more. Even though Erik is dark and broody, you see that what he does is many times to benefit Christine. However, Erik has a lot of secrets and one of them Christine discovers when she is at his home. Even though this discovery scares Christine, she is so drawn to him.

Through the series we see Erik’s obsession with Christine. It is dark. Christine is trying to get away from Erik, but he makes it impossible. She feels he is watching her.

Raoul on the other hand has not forgotten Christine from all those years ago. He wants Christine and has regrets from their last summer together. He also wants to protect Christine. I have no idea where either male character stands. Is this a love triangle? I am not sure. Honestly, I don’t know how to explain it, but it works. I know who I want for Christine, but that is only because I do not trust the other.
I was really enjoying the series. I could not put it down and was getting disappointed when I was getting close to the end, but I did not like how Christine handled some things in episode three. Especially her passive behavior about something her father did after he died. My frustration is with Christine and how she handles people who repeatedly take advantage of her.

I do not want to say more. I think it is important to come to your own conclusion when reading these episodes with regards to Christine, Erik, and Raoul. It has a bit of everything. I really liked it, but I hope that Christine grows a back bone.

Episode 4 is due out in May 2015.

Very engaging retelling of the Phantom of the Opera. Christine Durand is a ghost writer employed by Durand Publishing, her late father's company. She aspires to write her own novels and get out of the shadow of author, Sylvia Stone, the publishing house's current literary diva. The other heavyweight client is Erik Duke, world-reknowed horror writer. Erik, a reclusive and mysterious man will agree to work only with Christine. Desperate to appease their important client, DP agrees sending Christine out to his remote location in Maine.

Christine Durand's passion has always been to write and to save her father's company. She is talented but struggles to continue in a place where she is effective in name only. Her dreams are to write her own novels and Erik notices her talent. He wishes to be her mentor and polish her talents. Christine is both repelled and drawn to Erik Duke's dark and domineering personality. She feels on fire when she is with him and knows the feeling is mutual. Erik, seeks not just to hone her talents but to possess Christine body and soul. He also struggles to keep a reign on his passionate desire for Christine but it threatens to consume him.

Christine's childhood sweetheart, Raoul Chance, is the breath of fresh air. Tall, handsome, wealthy and still in love with her, Raoul wants nothing but the chance to love Christine and keep her safe from the dangerous clutches of Erik Duke.

Epsiodes 1-3 are very entertaining and in sync with the original Phantom of the Opera story. Looking forward to more installments.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

It's always nice to be so torn up about someone that it doesn't really seem clear whether it's love or obsession. I believe that's what happened in this book. I'm not sure how I can like both main characters since they both let me down by their actions at one point or another.

However, it is a testament to the author's ability to write a story where the hero and the heroine weren't so likable but their story is difficult to let go. I just wanted to know what was going to happen next. I may not like the characters, but I wanted to see their story through the end.

I hope that the heroine grows some balls and stands up for herself. I hope the hero stops being a controlling jerk. And I hope the potential love triangle gets an explosive conclusion. I wish I'd get the chance to read the fourth installment because I am hoping that the heroine will show some character devleopment by then.

Anyway, this book is still sexy, intriguing and entertaining at the very least. Any reader who picks this book up will definitely not regret spending time with it. It provides hours of enjoyable escapism, so you will never go wrong with this book. The author is a talented writer which makes it even better.

Here is my rating for each book individual:
Book 1- 5 stars
Book 2- 3 stars
Book 3- 2 stars

I was really excited for this series by the end of the first book. I saw a lot a potential between Christine, Erik, and Raoul as characters. However, my hope began to unravel the more that I read.

I found the story over all to feel more like cliff-notes, rather than an actual story. The author added way too many details and events that the story came out lacking in real substance.

The characters also feel really flat for me. Christine became a doormat and was willing to sell her soul to the devil to calm the waters. Her emotions were also all over the place without any explanation or true conviction. She says she loves Raoul even though she hasn't seen him in 10+yrs, and she says shes afraid of Erik yet she fantasizes about him while she's with Raoul...WTF.

Overall I just found the books to be lacking in a major way. The books are just way too short, with very little action of substance, and the characters are lacking and are hard to connect with.

My thoughts - This is the first three episodes brought together with the fourth being available later this year.

Loosely based on The Phantom of the Opera, Felicity Sparrow has done a wonderful job of writing this story. The characters are well formed and the story flows well.

I read this fairly quick as I was really looking forward to finding out what happens next. It kept me interested all the way through out and i'm really looking forward to finding out what happens next in episode four.

The first three episodes bundled together. Christine is an author’s assistant with a secret, she ghostwrites for Sylvia Stone. Erik Duke want her to be more, but has secrets of his own. This story is fast paced and really drew me in with all the drama. The characters are well developed and held my interest throughout. A great read.
