Sure, there are some fine passages that speak to the power and beauty of praying the rosary, but there's also some pretty outrageous nonsense. Consider the devotion for June 16:

"In an earthquake a poor woman was buried under the ruins of a house which was overthrown. A priest had the stones and rubbish cleared away, and under them found the mother with her children in her arms, alive and uninjured. On being asked what devotion she had practiced, she replied that she never omitted saying the rosary and visiting the altar of our Blessed Lady." --St. Alphonsus Liguori.

What kind of psychopathic God would say, "Well, sorry, I would have saved you from that house falling down on you, but you omitted saying the rosary and visiting the altar of our Blessed Lady"?

May 20 offers some nonsense of its own:

"It would hardly be possible for me to put into words how much Our Lady thinks of the holy rosary and of show she vastly pefers it to all other devotions." --St. Louis De Montfort.

Who knew that St. Louis De Montfort had a direct line to the Mother of God!? And who knew that there would be preferences in the afterlife?

In an effort to balance my apparent negativity in this review, I guess I can share one that isn't bad:

"The rosary is a good friend in joy, but an even better friend in battle. today the drums continuously beat for battle. Our lives are one big battle. We are dependent on loyal, good friends. The rosary is such a good friend in the big battle of our time." --Fr. Joseph Kentenich

And this one:

"The single riches treasure in the Vatican is the rosary." --Pope Pius IX

Yes, there are a couple of gems in here, as the title suggests, but they are rare.
