Little read for few hours that should have been an article. Author tells you that 6 sigma is simple and thus just briefly covers topics that you probably must consider while planning implementation.

The title implies "beginners in 6 sigma", but it's for people who are really new to any management methods. Probably an entry-level implementation strategy guide for anyone with desperate intention to just use the damn sigma (and no or little background in change management).

It does not expand on practicing Lean Six Sigma as you probably expect when looking for such books. It covers some basics that are quite clear by the time you start looking for the book on the subject. The rest of the text is about benefits of successful implementation and the certification system.

It's a poorly written 80 page ad for lean six sigma that I regret paying money for

Good introduction to topic

I like the way the book is split into smaller parts. Just basic stuff which can be used to understand lean six sigma

For a long time I've thought about Six Sigma. If you've never heard of Six Sigma, Lean Six SIGMA for Beginners: A QuickStart Beginner's Guide to Lean Six SIGMA by G Harver is a great reference.

Lean Six Sigma is a methodology that focuses on increasing efficiency and reducing waste in business (e.g. manufacturing, services industries, etc.). Eliminating business waste such as overproduction, duplicative efforts, and misuse of human resources leads to increased efficiency and productivity at a lower cost.

Essentially, the core concept of the Six Sigma methodology is that if you can accurately measure the defects in a process, you can systematically attack these exceptions and eliminate them through well-thought out processes, with the ultimate goal of reach zero (or as close to zero as possible) defects in the process . The concept of "lean" manufacturing or production focuses on the systematic elimination of business waste. To achieve Six Sigma Quality, a process must produce no more than 3.4 defects per million opportunities.

I enjoyed the layout of the book, which was broken up into small, easily digested sections of information and "how to's"; however, I felt there was something lacking. I wanted MORE information - case studies, examples, not just outlines of what Six Sigma and Lean Six Sigma set out to do and a series of definitions.

In any case, I think the book accomplishes what it sets out to do: provide a "quick-start" outline for beginners to the concepts of Six Sigma and Lean Six Sigma. Nevertheless, the book is a high-level overview. If you're looking for more detail, look elsewhere.

Good book for first steps

I think that this book is very useful if you don't know anything about Six Sigma but you want to approach the subject. I will now try to find a book that will prepare me for the yellow belt exam.

The book is not that great of a source for lean six sigma. Takes a few hours to go through it and kept me wondering that this would have been a good article. Not recommended reading for advanced individuals in lean six sigma.
