If Not For Love

Rate this book
Ivy Jones is the baddest female in Detroit--or at least that's what she thinks. High maintenance and all about a come up, Ivy cares about no one but herself. Only messing with ballers and guys willing to do whatever for her, Ivy is a high class gold digger and figures she can pull any guy she wants...until she meets the infamous Hakeem Miller. A New York native with a swag to die for, Hakeem is a hustler to the core who stands firmly by the motto M.O.B. The women love him and the men fear him. But all Ivy wants is a little bit of his time...and income, of course. However, what she gains instead may be more than what she bargained for. Playing with fire, someone is bound to get burned. Will love and loyalty prevail in the end? Or will a set of hidden agendas cause heartache and turmoil?

“If Not For Love” was the second book that I read by the author Miss Candice. Honestly, I read the sample first before deciding if I wanted to read it and that was enough to make me read the whole thing in less than a day. I was into this like I was in the story from page one, which for me is not an easy task to do. Besides to a great storyline, I have a checklist of things I look for when determining if a book is great to me. Despite a few things with spelling and places where things people said something but referenced them as she when it was a he talking, Miss Candice has met my checklist. The storyline was not too slow or too fast. The character development was just enough to keep you guessing and on edge. I may be late in hearing the song before but I still thought it was awesome to mention an actual song that described a character in the book.

Ivy: An accurate representation of Ludacris song “My Chick Bad”. She has this solid exterior yet has a damaged interior. To say she goes through a lot would be an understatement but she rolls with the punches in almost all areas but one. It reminded me of how some people pretend to be strong and tough yet it is all a façade for how they feel. I am anxious to see how she handles what is to come… will she change or resort back to her “normal”?

Trina: I don’t know what her problem is but she better check that because she had me heated like I was there. If she did go against the “code”, she needs to be dealt with ASAP. Every time she was mentioned I felt some type of way… made my skin crawl lol… Just straight foul in my opinion. Unfortunately, even in real life people always have/had at least one “Trina” to cause problems.

Penny: Wake Up! I felt sorry for her. So many people deal with her situation daily; it’s a shame. I am hoping she sees the light and gets it together.

Hakeem: Is a mystery man yet don’t cross him. Some people say the quiet ones are who you need to watch out for the most, in his case that’s true. I don’t know if people will understand him if they found out his background that makes one wonder will he keep his guard up or will he let one person know the real him? Also, will he embrace love or run like he has been? One thing is for sure everybody should want to stay in his good graces or prepare for the outcomes!

This book truly has been in my feelings lol and even have in my head how I think things should be especially with certain people… I have to read the other parts because this was only a glimpse into what I believe the author is going to do especially with my feelings…

I'm absolutely loved everything about this book. The characters and the storyline was Perfect. What drew me in the most was Heem and Ivy I love the chemistry between them and I loved how they match each other's fly. I really hope they stop playing with each other and settle down. If not for Love

Ivy seems like a girl who got a good head on her shoulders but she's going about it the wrong way. I like Keem he's a good match for her he makes her think. Hopefully she realizes she has to change for herself not for a man.
