Postmortem is a bleak little slice of Southern Gothic. It is a story of greed, violence and cosmic justice, told through the eyes of a boy whose father can raise the dead. The unnamed father and son at its heart make a living by catering to desperate souls. Those brave enough (and with enough cash on hand) bring bodies for resurrection. Potential customers are warned, however, that the miracle they seek is against the natural order, and that there are spiritual forces to punish those who might supplant it.
Jacob Michael King's stories have appeared in Permafrost, Buffalo Almanack, Fantasy Scroll Magazine, and Cactus Heart. His novelette, "Postmortem," is available from Onyx Neon Press. In addition to his fiction, he contributed a chapter to New Perspectives on the Nation of Islam (Routledge, 2017).
“Dear Denny” was nominated for a Pushcart Prize by Permafrost, the literary journal of the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. “Quo Vadis,” printed in Buffalo Almanack #7 , made the long list for Ellen Datlow’s Best Horror of the Year, Volume 8.
Damned If You Do, his first short story collection, is available on Kindle for $0.99, and in a glorious paperback for $4.99.
