About the author

Philip Stanley Rawson was an English artist, teacher and author. A specialist on Eastern art, he wrote widely on the subject in books and for various publications. He also organized a number of exhibitions on Indian art in Britain. Rawson also served as a UNESCO expert on museology in India, worked as a tutor at the Royal College of Art, and was the Dean of the School of Art and Design at Goldsmiths' College, London, among others.

Oh! How the mighty have fallen!
The book, a carefully chosen collection of 40 paintings focusing on eroticism and celebration of desire and love in Indian painting, is a poignant reminder of the wonderful heights that Indian civilization once achieved. It is painful to see the ruinous skeleton of that glory nowadays, where almost nobody is in touch with that aesthetic. The outlook, philosophy and the worldview visible in these lovely, uninhibited portraits are a world heritage, and are akin to a keystone species of global ecosystem of ideas whose extinction we as the collective humanity will be sorry to witness.
A timeless piece of art.
