Devlin & Val—i liked this concept a lot. I think Val being super into rescuing animals was a great storyline. I liked how Monica actually wasn’t the devil deep down, and how Liz for the most part was a supportive best friend. I think Devlin fit his grumpy/rough exterior well. I would’ve loved to see Val & Devlin with Sasha, though.
Devlin is a dark guy for sure. He has issues with and about everyone and everything. Val though, he has a soft spot for but has a very weird twisted way of showing it. I will say my rating is 3.5 because there is no definite conclusion to the mystery of who wrote the smutty Valentine cards. There is also the impending bomb detonation when Sasha finds out about the new couple. Lastly, I knocked of some because some of the discussions between Val and Devlin do not make sense. It is akin to code. But it was a quick read with a HFN or as happy as Devlin gets anyway.
Honestly, it threw me off because one minute it was heading in the right direction in the next it was off way off like what, how a can book say it spicy but not be until the last page . I was looking forward to reading another round from this author but I think it was time for me to not continue. It was all over the place and some of the first made some sense but after that it went no where.
I dont know how to explain it, but this book feels like a rough draft that accidentally got published? It’s a decent story, but needs so editing, and some more filling out. It jumps around quite a bit, and there’s an entire chapter that left me extremely confused as to what was going on.
This novella was decent. Val is an interesting character. Devlin is kind of a red flag and a bit of a creep. Overall though i think they are cute together.
