This is a search story that tackles some big concepts! While it has all the fun that comes with a story about cannibalism, it also goes into the mental state of someone involved in it.
Libra like “Cannibalism was not illegal here.” Shows the main characters morality on the subject, leading to lot of insight on the why. Plus lines like “Season me with salt and pepper.“ show the opposite in the boundaries that are involved.
This was a fun story that you can read in one setting. If you a fan of her longer work, you will like this short peace.
One wants to eat and the other one is ready to be eaten. Or should I say Devoured?! This very short story brings cannibalism to the table.
Written in a very poetic way, you cannot help but feel empathy for the characters, their story and their demise. And Devoured might be just 15 pages long but it’s filled with emotions, seasonings and fine cuts. Perfect to read in one sitting.
A vicious little read! Huge thanks to Kd Davies for the ARC. It was a quick, intense read that I really enjoyed, and it’s yet another one l’a highly recommend!🩸
Devoured, written by K D Davies, is a cannibalistic splatterpunk novel that gives you a quick hit to the endorphins that satisfies our little chaos goblin minds! I have really grown to love Davies's writing style and imagery in the few books I have had the honor of reading.
This book explores a macabre obsession through the lens of splatterpunk. Yum, my favorite! We get to dive into the psyche of “the Beast” and get a glimpse of what has fueled and shaped the compulsion of viewing the human existence purely in terms of consumption, like livestock. This isn’t just a physical need, but a psychological one. The need for absolute control.
Imagine, if you will… finding someone whose misery aligns with your fetishistic fantasies. Although consent is given, is that really enough? This partner, grieving the loss of his mother and dealing with alienation from society, seeks to become the subject of the fetish. Purpose through death, and the other finds identity through the act of killing. Meeting first through digital means, then eventually meeting in person. I’m not going to lie - meeting like minds on the internet can sometimes be very validating.
The blood, gore, and viscera are on point - as always. Watching as a fantasy becomes a shocking reality. Although it seems somewhat poetic, the narrator is still looney tunes. Knowing a human has the terrifying capacity to rationalize the most heinous of acts as an act of beauty or even liberation. Whew!
Thanks to K D Davies for gifting me an eARC of Devoured. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This extreme horror/ splatter short goes in a different direction than KD's other works, utilizing more of a poetic flair while exploring a relationship steeped in cannibalism.
Speaking to KD, I discovered that the story itself is based on a real-life true crime case, and she expressed how she felt sympathy for the people involved in this particular case, due to the strange circumstances and effective consensuality of the act. In response, KD has written a short (10 pages) and impactful story, where the love between a couple and the desire to devour, and subsequently unify, may not always work as planned. A solid effort, and suitably splattery as always, handling some heavy and unusual subject matter! Great stuff!
Thank you so much to the author for allowing me to read this ARC!
This book is only 10 pages long and it deserves to be on your TBR list. I mean come on it'll only take you maybe 15 minutes to read it! Especially when you will be itching to want to know what happens next.
When you have a fetish to be a human butcher and eat what you kill and not waste anything you turn to the Internet. Finding the perfect candidate wasn't hard. Finding someone in their own misery who didn't want to be walking on this earth any longer wasn't hard..... 10 pages that's it and this was a gruesome one! The details will make you squirm.
An unnamed cannibal in search of his perfect meal. An unnamed man who wants to die and consents to being eaten. That's the premise, and Davies handles it with a kind of prose that has absolutely no business being this beautiful given the subject matter.
We get a small backstory, just enough to understand both men without over-explaining them, and then the process. Written with a poetic, almost romantic quality that makes you forget, briefly, what you're actually reading.
I had the honour of receiving an ARC copy. A violent, disturbing, and very human-centred story. The voice of the character is distinct, unstable, and also deeply compassionate mixed with an animalistic appetite. It's a character-driven meets with bloody, graphically gory story. If you're into tales that will leave you unsettled and even mentally dirty, this is for you.
Well done to K D Davies on a wonderful, short, sharp, gruesome story.
Here’s a short dive into the topic of cannibalism, where the story explores the consumption of body parts. Be warned, this book is extremely graphic and gory.
The main character doesn’t have a name, but the way they communicate brings a softer touch to the grim theme of cannibalism. Some things are meant to be experienced, others to be lived, and then there are those that are simply meant to be devoured.
Thank you KD, for allowing me to read this ARC. All opinions are my own.
A tale of meat, blood, and queer cannibalistic longing guaranteed to twist your stomach while delighting you in equal measure.
This was an experience on its own. Half of my brain kept drifting back to that infamous German cannibal case, while the other half got completely seduced by the story.
Disgusting. Seductive. Impossible to look away from.
Thank you to KD for this quick read as an arc!! Really enjoyed this fast paced read!! As of all her books they are great!! This is another one I would recommend!
