"The surf was so big I cleared the end of the Malibu Pier by 100 yards. That was '36." Wow. That is right here in southern California. We are talking about over head waves (6+ feet). Over head waves don't Scare the great Duke or Pete Peterson. Pete Dixon's Men Who Ride Mountains rushed me with its intense stories and explanations of these daring surfers taken on explosive surf.

Pete Dixon has a thrilling writing style. In this book Pete explores the world of surfing and how it came to be. Who are the legends and what have they accomplished. Things from the Great Dukes mile and a half ride to Pete Peterson's outstanding win at surf champions competition. Dixon demonstrates the amazing athleticism of the sport as well as the expertise needed to understand it. Not only does he tell us about the surfing legends , he takes us around the world. From Southern California , to the crystal clear water in Hawaii, and to the shark infested waters of Australia. The Overall theme in this book would be the fact that surfing is a competitive sport and it takes guts, skill, and mental ability to be successful in it.

Over all, whether your into surfing or not, this book is an absolute thriller.Pete Dixon does an excellent job capturing and explaining the thrilling moments of huge surf. I recommend this book to the people who love to read for excitement as well as wanting to know more about the sport of surfing.
