Mi Primer Libro de Lectura

Rate this book

The author's stated intent is to teach a young child to read without the crutch of using pictures. Her approach is to present first three letter words, then four and five letter words. At the end there are sentences which use the words previously presented.

This is not a phonetic approach to reading. There is not a systematic approach to words chosen. For example within the three letter words, some follow the short vowel rule, others have silent y or the oy sound. Four letter words might contain a double vowel, diphthong or silent e ending. A child will need to be very motivated and the teacher dedicated to see quick results with this approach. However, every learner is different and some children will be able to learn to read using this approach.

Ok no. I do not believe children should learn to read via association but the format of this book is basically flash cards in the form of a book.
That will not entice nor excite young readers and I feel it is very important to make learning fun from a young age.

Personally I think a picture or two per page would not have hurt.

My First Reading Book by Amber Richards
Introduction about this book and how it uses 3 letter words then increases more letters. The goal is for the child to sound out the words by memorizing a few similar words used frequently.
That is not the way our school system works nor the leapfrog activity games for young children but I can follow along.
Other works by the author, not related to children's reading books are highlighted at the end.

This is a great book for a child that already knows his alphabet and the sound of each letter (He/she must be able to sound out the letters phonetically).
If you are just looking for another picture book that this is not for you.
The great concept of this book is that it only concentrates on the words because there are no pictures.
I used this book to teach my godchild how to start reading. The problem my godchild's mom was having was that with picture books, he was looking at the pictures and just saying what he saw without looking at the word below the picture. This book actually made him look at the word and sound it out. I used a reward system to keep him motivated. I give him 1 star for every word he was able to sound out with the goal of accumulating 15 stars to get his favorite cookie. It worked and his mom (my best friend) is really happy I got him to actually read.

This is just what I was looking for, to help teach my grandson how to read. I could tell pictures distracted him from learning the actual words. He has mastered the alphabet and phonetic sounds. It seems the other beginner reading books I've found where all picture books, so it was nice to find one void of pictures.

Good starters book

I know the book is intended to teach children how to read but I think one thing I would have liked to see is pictures with some of the words. I know at the beginning of the book they did explain it though. Good job with it and I really hope kids read it and will learn from it.

I guess I understand the author not putting in pictures so kids would focus on the reading, but I found that it might have been better to add a few illustrations or maybe more of an explanation of the words. So even though that was lacking I felt this would be a good book to teach kids sight words. A few pictures might help keep the attention of early readers.

L'approccio è interessante: come primi passi nel mondo della lettura, invece di associare la figura alla parola (in modo che il bambino possa memorizzare l'immagine invece dello scritto) si dà solamente la parola.

A simple book for your child to learn to read

This book will be used frequently until your child is reading simple sentences. Starting with pages of single words the book moves onto simple sentences using common words most children already use daily in their speech.

Great idea. Reminds me of sight word cards. I recommend this book to early readers. Off to check out this authors other books too.
