Holly, Pets & Pudding
An unforeseen demise, a legacy, and a perplexing puzzle.
When Rachel’s favorite aunt dies under mysterious circumstances, she never expected to inherit the Happy Hollow Bakery that had long been in her family. It also came as a surprise to her that she would inherit her aunt’s cherished pets, which included a precocious cat and a dog that was irritatingly protective.
So close to Christmas, Rachel was faced with reopening the bakery and planning the menu. When her creations disappeared overnight, she wondered if her decision to accept the inheritance was the right one. Rachel, however, understood she had a responsibility. She couldn’t back out without at least attempting to make it work.
Would love for the bakery she grew up around wane before she settled in? Or would she solve the mystery causing her so much grief?

Walking down the street and watching people go about their day-to-day life, but thinking strange, even dangerous things.
I still clearly remember the day I stood at the traffic lights in downtown Melbourne. There she was, sitting in her car, waiting for the lights to change green. Tapping her fingers impatiently.
Something inside my head went off. Kaboom! An idea formed, and became the beginning of a novel.
Instead of sitting patiently at the lights, she was nervous, extremely anxious as she was being pursued by killers. The next thing she knew, an angry, crazy man was slamming her windscreen with a sledgehammer and she was running for her life.
Yes, the life of a writer is quite unique.

Such a great book!
Rachel's life was turned upside down when her aunt passed away, leaving her the Happy Hollow Bakery and two furry friends, Roger and Zeus. As she navigated the ups and downs of running a bakery, Rachel began to suspect that something was amiss. There were strange noises in the attic, and Rachel couldn't shake the feeling that someone was in the loft. But with the help of her best friend Tyler, they was determined to solve the mystery of the haunted attic. After all, when life gives you lemons, make lemon bars, or pudding can make even the most trying times a little more bearable. I always enjoy reading anything by Cheryl Wright and it was refreshing to read a modern day book by her - highly recommend reading it!

Who is Up in the Loft ?? . . .
Rachel Grant had worked with her Aunt Harriet in the bakery less than a week ago. She expected her Aunt would retire soon and hoped she might let Rachel buy the Happy Hollow Bakery which was well loved by the community. Instead, she finds herself attending her Aunt's funeral when a fall caused her death! Harriet's lawyer, Jonathan Mercer, approached to tell her he represented her Aunt's estate and they needed to meet after the funeral. He guided her to a seat and offered to get her a cup of tea. As soon as he left, another man sat in the seat beside her and she welcomed her best friend Tyler, a police detective. She asked him to come with her when she went to see Mr. Mercer, and was shocked to find it was a reading of the Will. She immediately asked if she could possibly purchase the bakery before he might put it on the market for sale. Instead, he told her she was Harriet Bailey’s only living relative and she will inherit everything, which included Happy Hollow Bakery, fully paid and without debt, Harriet's two pets – Roger the cat and Zeus the dog, Harriet's apartment which was connected to the store via a locked connecting door, and the contents of her bank account. Tyler went with Rachel to the bakery. He experienced an overwhelming feeling of dread for some reason. Rachel also said it didn't feel right. Oddly Harriet had changed her will only six months ago -- was there a reason for that they weren't aware of? And why had she gone into the bakery alone against their primary rule? Tyler suggested she ask Ben Dunagan, Harriet's bakery assistant, to join her so she wouldn't be working alone. He hoped Ben would agree to switch to full-time now. Fortunately, Ben was okay with that.
As Rachel headed to the apartment, she heard a noise in the loft! She called Tyler who came over immediately. Zeus had followed her and ran from room to room, finally settling down. Two police officers arrived as well at Tyler's request. When she wouldn't leave for her safety, Tyler said he would stay there with her; she was not to be alone! The officers didn't find anyone in the loft, but Tyler was sure they found something up there. When Rachel went to the kitchen, he asked Jones about it and was told they saw evidence that someone had been in the loft at some point. Rather than upset Rachel further, he chose not to tell her... but she was sure he was holding something back. As they sat down for coffee and biscuits, Rachel heard the sound in the loft again and Tyler sent Jones up there again to check. When there was still nothing to find, Tyler had one final idea on how to solve this mystery... would it work? And what would happen if he had guessed wrong?

Rachel Grant worked in her Aunt Harriet’s Happy Hollow Bakery. When she died, Rachel inherited the bakery, apartment, Zeus the dog & Roger the cat. She heard noises on her first day back in the bakery & asked her friend Tyler, a detective, to come over. They couldn’t find the source, so he stayed over to ensure her safety & solve the mystery. This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but it won’t be the last since I liked her writing style, plus it was nice of her to include the Plum Pudding recipe at the end of the book.
