Got this at the library book sale for a dollar! Awesome find. Some of the sculptures are very beautiful. The accompanying text gives a lot of context and along with the sculptures gives a detailed account of the incredibly complex Mayan culture, which was apparently filled with a ridiculous amount of rituals.

First edition 1997. I bought it in the old Guatemala airport during a delayed departure. Cost me $161 US dollars which was the most I had ever paid for an art book but it was Linda Schele and, though, I never had the chance to meet her, I knew of her tremendous ground breaking work in New Maya thought.Lovingly photographed by Jorge Perez de Lara. Just a delicious book to look through. Schele's eye was so well trained and her scholarship-impeccable.Fundemental book for understanding Maya art.
