One reckless night with her brother’s teammate was never part of the plan.
But some lines were meant to be crossed.
Leslie Brooks never planned to sleep with a professional hockey player.
Especially not her brother’s teammate.
After years of playing it safe—earning two degrees, chasing a career that refuses to materialize, and trying to build a life that makes sense—Leslie decides to do something reckless for once. One night. No expectations. No complications.
But the moment she locks eyes with Rowan Masters in the arena tunnel, something shifts.
The connection between them is immediate, overwhelming… and impossible to explain.
Rowan has spent his entire life chasing discipline and control. As one of the league’s most respected players, he doesn’t take risks off the ice—especially ones that could damage his career or his relationship with his teammates.
Sleeping with Landon Brooks’s little sister definitely qualifies as a risk.
But from the moment Rowan meets Leslie, walking away isn’t an option.
One impulsive night changes everything.
When Leslie shows up weeks later with news neither of them expected, their lives collide in ways neither of them planned. Suddenly they’re navigating media scrutiny, family tension, and the uncertain reality of building a relationship that began in a single unforgettable moment.
And as Rowan prepares for the opportunity of a lifetime—the chance to compete on the world’s biggest stage—they must decide whether the connection between them is strong enough to survive the spotlight.
Because sometimes the line you swore you’d never cross is the one that leads exactly where you’re meant to be.

Leslie has always been the quiet one. While her brother made a name for himself in the NHL, she focused on her passion for the environment and building her own career.
When a work opportunity brings her to her brother's city, she decides to attend one of his games. That's where, in a cold arena corridor far from the public eye, she meets Rowan Masters, one of her brother's teammates.
The attraction is immediate—and mutual.
By the end of the night, they're together, and for Rowan, something clicks instantly. Not a one-night stand but the beginning of something more.
For Leslie, however, it's easier to leave before she can get hurt. Surely the night couldn't have meant as much to him as it did to her... right?
Except Rowan is all in from the start. And when their unexpected pregnancy changes everything, he doesn't run away. He shows up, gets involved, and proves through his actions that he's there to stay.
Rowan was definitely my favorite part of this book. It was refreshing to read about a man who is such a complete green flag. He communicates, takes responsibility, respects boundaries, and gives Leslie the space she needs to work through her insecurities. Honestly, he's pretty much book-boyfriend material.
That said, the pacing felt uneven at times. Some sections seemed longer than necessary, while a few important moments felt rushed or were missing altogether. I would have loved to see more of events such as their first Christmas together, conversations with Leslie's brother, or Rowan introducing her to his family.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read, but it wasn't quite a hit for me.

⭐️ CHRONIQUE ARC ⭐️
This was EVERYTHING I want in a hockey romance. Protective hero? Check. Brother’s teammate tension? Check. Surprise pregnancy that actually made me MORE obsessed instead of stressed? ABSOLUTELY CHECK.
Rowan Masters is officially added to my “fictional men who could ruin my life and I’d thank them for it” list. The man was so emotionally mature and devoted it genuinely melted my brain. No toxic nonsense. No unnecessary drama. Just this deeply caring, disciplined hockey star absolutely folding for Leslie from the second he saw her in that arena tunnel. The chemistry between them was instant but it never felt shallow. It felt inevitable.
And Leslie??? I loved her SO much. She felt real in that painfully relatable “trying so hard to have your life together while quietly panicking inside” kind of way. Watching her finally choose something reckless for herself and then have her whole life change because of it was so emotional and satisfying. She wasn’t perfect, Rowan wasn’t perfect, but together they just WORKED.
The thing I loved most about this book was the devotion. Rowan never made Leslie feel like a problem to solve or a mistake he regretted. Even with the media pressure, the team dynamics, the long distance, and the huge career opportunities hanging over him, that man showed UP. Constantly. The protective energy coming off him was unreal. Every scene with him taking care of Leslie had me melting into a puddle on the floor.
And can we talk about the communication?? THESE TWO ACTUALLY TALKED TO EACH OTHER. Revolutionary. Stunning. Beautiful. I could’ve cried from relief 😭
This book felt soft and swoony while still being emotional and addictive. The romance wasn’t built on chaos, it was built on trust and choosing each other over and over again, and honestly that hit harder than any manufactured drama ever could.
I inhaled this book in one sitting and now I’m sitting here staring at the wall like Rowan Masters personally paid my bills and changed my oil. Five stars without hesitation
This was everything! Truly one of those books that gives you exactly what you want and somehow still manages to exceed expectations.
The first meeting? Absolutely adorable. The kind that instantly pulls you in and makes you smile because you know you’re about to become emotionally invested. I love when a romance starts with that perfect little spark, and Leslie and Rowan absolutely had that.
And then there’s Leslie and Rowan themselves—what an adorable couple. I loved them so much. Their chemistry felt natural from the start, and watching their relationship grow was such a fun and heartwarming experience. They had that perfect blend of sweetness, tension, and emotional connection that makes you root for them from the very beginning.
Of course, the hockey element made this even better because give me romance + hockey and I am immediately all in. It added that extra fun, competitive, swoony vibe that made the story even more enjoyable.
But what really stood out to me was their journey. It felt full of love, fate, and those little moments that make a romance memorable. Watching them find their way to each other felt effortless and heartfelt, and I loved every second of it.
This was one of those books that leaves you smiling while reading and thinking about the characters long after you finish. Cute, emotional, swoony, and hockey-filled? Absolutely a win for me.
Thank you Quinn Rose for allowing me to ARC read this in exchange for my honest opinion!
We meet Leslie who just moved into the city for work and bonus that her NHL'er brother, Landon lives here too. Leslie is a bookworm at heart and never really paid attention to hockey growing up. She is on her way to practice to see Landon and when she is walking the tunnel to wait for him, she is immediately drawn to the person that is walking towards her....Rowan Masters. There is smtg Leslie's friend said about mate bond and this feels like one where all she sees is Rowan. We then meet Rowan, NHLer who is struck by the beauty in the tunnel. After staring at her for it seems eternity, Landon comes and sweeps her off her feet. Rowan feels an instant connection to the mystery woman and wonders if she is Landon's gf. He later learns she is his sister and when they all go out afterwards, Leslie and Rowan chat. They end up leaving and going for ice cream which leads to heading back to his place. A night of passion leads to Leslie leaving early and Rowan waking up alone. Leslie is busy with work weeks after when her phone tells her she is late...oh no! This is not happening! After freaking out, Leslie decides she must tell Rowan even if he doesnt want to be apart of it, but Rowan is supportive. Both Leslie and Rowan must navigate this new normal especially with Rowan's career. Family drama, back aches and Olympic dreams make this such a cute read, cant wait for the next book.
Book Trope: professional hockey romance, brother’s teammate, off limits, surprise pregnancy, protective hero, long distance love, emotionally mature, low drama, high devotion romance.
Leslie Brooks has just moved from Chicago to where her brother - Landon Brooks, is playing professional hockey. She moved to be closer to him and gain a new experience in a new city.
Rowan has always been the broody NHL Hockey player. He doesn’t let many people in to his world. He lets even less women in. Once he sees Leslie is is a goner. Rowan knows he needs to know who she is. He is instantly taken with her.
Both Rowan and Landon make the Olympic Hockey Team. They go out for training for three weeks before the Olympics and then travel over seas for the actual Olympic Games.
For me there were some errors in the books. One month it’s June and Leslie is 5 months pregnant. The next chapter it’s January and she’s seven months along. What happened? Time line is incorrect a few times. Instant ‘mate’ meeting between Leslie and Rowan. People don’t call their loved ones as mates. That is more animal primal talk. When Rowan and Landon go to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, don’t seem to have any issue with training at that elevation but it should be a struggle breathing, skating, exerting so much energy they will get worn out more because they aren’t use to that elevation.
I did receive a free ARC copy of this book. I am freely leaving a honest book review.
Leslie has relocated to Duluth after finishing Grad school. Rowen is her brother’s teammate in the NHL. After a brief moment in the tunnel, they go to a bar after a hockey game. They ultimately spend the night together but Leslie freaks and leaves before Rowen wakes up. Five weeks later Leslie is pregnant and they have to navigate an unplanned pregnancy.
Things that worked for me: I enjoyed seeing Leslie go from feeling kind of lost to being settled. I liked how they handled an incredible opportunity for Rowen together. Once they got together, the relationship was very mature and healthy. I loved the way the managed during distance and the birth! The ending was beautiful.
Things that didn’t work for me: I don’t necessarily understand why Leslie is full of self-doubt if I’m being honest. For such a huge trait of this character I don’t feel like we ever understand what happened to make her like that. I also feel like it’s weird that we don’t have an introduction to Rowan’s mom, she’s just automatically involved out of nowhere. Another thing is the mate bond. I feel like that was so heavily influenced in the beginning but really after the first few chapters it’s never mentioned again. It honestly probably could’ve just not been included and the story would’ve been fine without it.
First, thank you to the author for sending me an ARC, I am grateful to be able to have read this!
Okay, so, this story contains two of the most controversial (it seems these days) tropes; accidental pregnancy and semi-mild miscommunication. A lot of people may turn away at this, but *chefs kiss* they were done so SO seamlessly and PERFECT. The author wrote the most GREEN FLAG of an MC, which really made my heart swoon. I am a big fan of fated mates and I love that it was such an early part of the story, it really centered around building their relationship and I really enjoyed. I loved the hockey terminology, as someone that doesn’t watch hockey it was made really engaging by the author. Overall, I thought the FMC and MC were so perfectly suited, I feel their connection was so strong I could feel it through the page. I also thought the author did an amazing job in the spots of tension, it was palpable.
Overall, I would definitely recommend giving this one a read. It is mostly light-hearted, extremely passionate without too much steam (like 1.5-2 on the scale of spicy) and it will make your heart happy!
*Just a note this cover is AI, I spoke with the author about the circumstances after I had already read, circumstantial and not preferred by the author either*
Thanks again for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC.
[eARC]I loved this book. I was hooked from the very first chapter and I couldn't put it down.
There was so much to love about Crossing the Line. I found it to be intimate and full of characters who felt completely real. It was so easy to root for Leslie and Rowan. She was so sweet and he was the kind of hero that just kept showing up.
I loved Leslie and Rowan together. I was a little heartbroken after their one night, but these two were always meant to be together and circumstances helped that happen. Rowan was all in with Leslie and I loved that his heart was open to it right from the beginning. Of course, while Rowan was already well into the relationship on that first night, Leslie struggled with believing he could ever want anything long-term with her.
I loved how their story developed and how natural they were together. While it was definitely a love at first sight romance, they really needed to build on the misunderstanding after that first night and they became two people genuinely choosing each other even when it's complicated, showing up for each other consistently. The found family running through it all just made my heart so full.
This book was great, emotionally satisfying, well-paced and and absolute must-read for book lovers that enjoy sweet, all-in men. I can't wait for book 2 in the series.
- Best friend's sister - Instant attraction - Unplanned pregnancy - He falls first
I'm adding Rowan to my green flag hero list. This man was SO into Leslie that it made my heart squish. Not going to lie, I didn't really understand the mate bond part since I had only read that in shifter books before, but that didn't detract from the story too much.
I absoloutely loved how Rowan honed in on Leslie right from the start in the tunnel, where she was trying to be invisible. Once he realized she wasn't his best friend Landon's girlfriend, he couldn't stop thinking about her and was eager to spend more time with her.
However, Leslie had some confidence issues and left early the next morning without leaving her number. Fast forward a few months and Leslie discovers she is pregnant. Here's the best part: She actually SOUGHT OUT Rowan so she could tell him as soon as possibe after finding out. That is almost unheard of in romance books. And Rowan's reaction? Sure, he was surprised, but again, he was ALL IN. He wanted to be there for every step of the way.
As Rowan and Leslie navigate their new future, they have to decide if they want to just co-parent or actually become a family. It was such a sweet experience to watch the relationship unfold.
I really love the characters Leslie and Rowan in this hockey romance. This is definitely a soft romance book and it is very lovey dovey and how all dream romantic stories should go. The respect that Rowan has for Leslie and how their relationship grows is really lovely and I did enjoy that. I just felt like it was a little too good to be true but then I guess that is what romance is all about. I read most of it engaged and wanting to see what happened next but felt like I struggled towards the end. Like I was wanting a bit more from their story maybe a bit more drama in between before everything turns out perfect for them. But Rowan is definitely a book boyfriend that all the hopeless romantics out there will want. If you are a hopeless romantic this book is definitely for you. I think I wanted a little bit of added spice and heat between them too even if it was just briefly throughout the story. But overall the storyline was good and it is an easy read and something easy to follow too. I did see the sneak peek to Landon story in the series and this got me a little excited as I LOVE him as a character too :) This is my honest review of the book.
Crossing the Line by Quinn Rose delivered a hockey romance packed with sizzling chemistry, emotional tension, and a forbidden romance that had my attention from start to finish. In this novel, we are introduced to the FMC Leslie Brooks, a young woman who had one reckless night with a professional hockey player, the MMC Rowan Masters, her brothers teammate. One of the things that I enjoyed about this novel is the chemistry between the main characters. Their relationship develops naturally, balancing playful banter with genuine emotional connection. The hero's struggle between loyalty to his teammate and his growing feelings adds a layer of conflict that kept me invested throughout the story. Overall, Crossing the Line is an entertaining start to the Claimed in the Spotlight series, with strong romantic tension, likable characters, and plenty of hockey-fueled drama.
I received an ARC copy from the author herself. Thank you so much for giving me a chance to read and voluntarily review this novel!
Crossing the Line was my first book by Quinn Rose, and I enjoyed the author’s fluid writing style.
I liked both Leslie and Rowan and enjoyed following their journey together. Their relationship develops steadily, and it was nice to see them grow closer without any unnecessary drama. If you’re looking for a sweet, feel-good romance with no angst and no OW/OM drama, this may be one for you.
However, I did feel that something was missing. While the romance was sweet, I would have liked a bit more spark and chemistry between the characters, along with a little more spice. I also found the story quite wordy in places, which had me skimming some sections. I think the book could have been shorter and tighter paced.
Overall, this is a cute, low-angst romance with likeable characters and a heartwarming relationship. While it didn’t completely wow me, it was still an enjoyable read.
Thank you to the author and publisher for the ARC. This is my honest review.
I received this book as an ARC and loved every minute of it 💙
From the very beginning, I was hooked by the instant connection between the characters. I’m a sucker for a good love-at-first-sight romance, and Quinn Rose delivered it beautifully. Their chemistry felt natural, sweet, and had me rooting for them from the start.
And as someone who absolutely loves a pregnancy trope, this book was right up my alley. Getting parts of that journey from the MMC’s POV made it even more special for me. There’s just something about seeing those emotions through his eyes that gets me every time 🥹
This was such an enjoyable read, full of heart, romance, and moments that had me smiling throughout. I’m so glad I had the chance to read it early and I can’t wait to dive into more of Quinn Rose’s work in the future!
Such a beautiful book. Forbidden romance - Teammates little sister.
The first meeting was so adorable and I was invested and hooked from the start.
I have decided I need a man like Roman Masters. He never made Leslie feel like a problem, a complication or “work”. He steps up when he needs to and shows Leslie that he will be there.
The commitment that Rowan has is amazing. The two of them communicated and worked together really well, they didn’t let outside pressure get to them.
Leslie didn’t hold Rowan back, she ensured he could fulfil his dreams while being supportive. I felt like Leslie really healed herself in this book with the feeling of rejection and found herself a beautiful family.
The sweetest hockey romance you'll ever read, complete with fated mates.
Quinn Rose has a way of weaving a story together that feels incredibly warm and comforting.
With low angst, low heat, and characters simply finding their way through life, this is a cozy, heartfelt read. At times, the slower pace may not work for everyone, but the story is so gentle and melodic that it's hard to mind.
For readers familiar with fated mates, this feels like a beginner-friendly take on the trope. The concept is present, but the focus remains on the connection between the characters and how their relationship develops.
Honestly, everyone needs a Rowan in their life the world would be a much better place for it.
This has to be the sweetest romance novel that I have read in a very long time. I absolutely loved it! Leslie and Rowan have a perfect love story without everything being perfect. A chance meeting, then a moment of true connection (and ice cream), followed by a night neither one of them can forget. Their chemistry is instant and strong without being too overpowering or obsessive. Their story is about life happening and learning to adjust while being scared and unsure. It was so beautiful, and I can’t wait to see how Landon’s story comes together. I am leaving this honest review voluntarily after receiving an advance copy.
This was such a sweet romance with Leslie and Rowan. Even though she’s off limits as she’s his friends sister, these two just can’t help themselves. The way they connected was sporadic. But it is what it is. And they’ve fallen for one another. Rowan thought he had his life all planned out, hockey and that was it. He didn’t expect to fall for Leslie. But she doesn’t want to live life in the spotlight. They’ve got some decisions to make. But of course they with tighter and find what works best. Loved this story.
This was a cute and easy read. Nothing too crazy. Love the hockey aspect, the brother’s protectiveness, Leslie’s growth and all of Rowan’s green flags. There were times where scenes felt long winded or too short. It just didn’t feel smooth. Other times I felt like we focused too much on something that was unnecessary and I would find myself glancing over paragraphs. Overall still a good and easy read. Would still recommend for sports/hockey romance readers.
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a copy.
ARC reader. If you are looking for a lighthearted romantic book that will help you remember falling in love this is the book for you. Leslie is a woman woth a plan but her heart is open. Rowan is a hockey player with his goals firmly in place until her. Oh and she's the baby sister who is off limits! The book flirts with mating bonds, but not in a desperate unhealthy need you now way like most. Good book to watch love grow and be nurtured and heal something deep down.
I’ll admit I was worried at first because of the mention of a mate bond, but it wasn’t what I was expecting. They were just made for each other without the being obsessed/possessed crazy kind.
I love that they could communicate like the grown adults they are and have a very loving relationship. Rowan wasn’t overbearing like some MMCs, he let her make her choices and that was AMAZING! I love that Leslie supported Rowan’s dream, even though she really wanted him to stay. She understood that he had been working for this his whole life and was not going to not let him turn down the chance to play. I can’t wait for the next book!
I got this book as an Arc. I actually probably put this at a 3.5, but can’t do it on my phone. You know what the story was actually really good, I liked the writing style, was glad they got the HEA. I love a hockey romance and this was decent. I didn’t like that it hinted at fated mates etc, but actually wasn’t really anything to do with the story. More love at first sight. I will definitely follow up and read book 2
Love this book it was sweet and well written. Brother’s teammate and the tension…. Protective brother and hero. Chef’s kiss. Everything I needed to read and of course the happily ever after.
Tropes: * Best Friends Sister * Surprise Pregnancy * He Falls First * Insta Chemistry
I loved this book from start to finish, Leslie and Rowan were chefs kiss. Watching their relationship grow throughout the book was amazing and their chemistry from the start felt so natural.
This book with everything!! it pulled me right in from the very beginning!!! Leslie loves her books and her brother is a hockey player and that’s what she meets Rowan. Rowan is completely drawn to Leslie and one day they start chatting and they end up sharing a night together. I love how supportive Rowan is once he finds out Leslie is pregnant with his baby. I feel like Rowan and Leslie’s relationship felt natural and they fit so perfectly together. This is definitely a must and I highly recommended it. I can’t wait for the next book. Thank you, Quinn for letting me be part of this arc team.
